Everyone Wins at PRASAD Chikitsa 4th Annual Well-Baby Competition
The 4th Annual Prasad Chikitsa Well-Baby Competition gave new meaning to the phrase, “healthy competition.” On Nov. 14, 2008, 21 proud mothers and fathers, and 19 beautiful children, ages 1-3 years, participated in this preventive health care initiative where everyone is a winner. Read more…
Johnathon’s first visit
to the Dental Clinic
Five-year-old Johnathon Maiori sauntered confidently aboard the mobile dental clinic for his first-ever dental exam. He even had a jaunty grin as he scrambled up into the big exam chair. Then, with a bib clipped under his chin, and a lead, x-ray apron weighing him down, Johnathon took in the strange-looking implements; His expression went from confident to concerned. “Mommy?” he asked uncertainly. “I’m right here,” said his mom, Jessica Maiori. PRASAD HIV/AIDS Program: Santosh’s and Rashmi’s Story
According to recent estimates, there are approximately 2.5 million individuals who are HIV positive in India. As the number of people living with HIV/AIDS continues to grow, so does the importance of your support of PRASAD Chikitsa’s HIV/AIDS program in the Tansa Valley. Since its inception, in April 2004, the program of awareness, prevention, diagnosis and treatment has reached more than 60,000 men, women and children. Here, schoolboys listen intently during a recent HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention presentation in their classroom.
We respect the privacy of the people we serve at the HIV/AIDS program, yet we can still tell you a little about them and how much your support means to them. Here, then, is a story about Santosh,* and his wife, Rashmi,* who were both diagnosed with HIV last year. The counseling and support that they received from the staff at the PRASAD Family Health Center has helped them cope with their illness. *Names have been changed to respect the privacy of those served at the HIV/AIDS program. Development U.S. – Concert: The Subject Tonight is Love
“The Subject Tonight is Love,” a poem by the Persian poet, Hafiz, was the theme of a benefit concert which Lazlo “Laz” and Helen Slomovits performed on January 17, 2009. Joan Hennigar hosted the concert in her studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Laz, a musician and composer, and Helen, also a musician, sang works by Rumi, Hafiz, Lalleshwari, Emily Dickinson and others, set to music composed by Laz.
It was the second year that the three friends joined hands to hold this special event in order to donate all of the proceeds to support The PRASAD Project’s important work in India, Mexico and the U.S. Read more…
