Last week’s highlights at Udayan Care Last week has been a very eventful week for Udayan Care. Firstly, a souvenir titled ‘SPIRIT OF FREEDOM’ was released on the occasion of Independence Day. None other than, Hon’ble Union Minister for Steel, Fertilizers and Chemicals, Sh. Ram Vilas Paswan released the book at his residence 12, Janpath Road, New Delhi on the eve of Independence Day. On the occasion, our 100 children from Udayan Ghars hoisted the flag, followed by a lavish lunch at his residence. The souvenir showcases beautiful paintings, poems and stories by the children of Udayan Care regarding their understanding of the freedom movement and what it means today; most of the pages had our own children dressed up as freedom fighters, which was hugely appreciated by the Hon’ble Minister, media and others present on the occasion. Secondly, on 20th August 2006, Udayan Care family celebrated its first wedding. One of our elder girls, Deepa got married. Ours is no ordinary family. To outsiders, we are the NGO, Udayan Care, but to those in the know, we are the Udayan Family. Trustees, Board members, professionals, staff, committee members, mentor mothers and our more than 100 children, all came together as one family to give our daughter the best possible send off. Even outsiders, who had somehow heard about our happy occasion, just turned up carrying gifts. They arrived as strangers, but left as friends. Ceremony and the wedding lunch over, when Deepa was departing with her new family, her husband and in-laws, she was really very happy, as this time round she was getting a family of her own. She was so engrossed in her newfound happiness, that she missed seeing the tears in her mentor mothers’ eyes – tears that will soon give way to smiles of welcome to the next child who will sleep in that vacant bed, which Deepa is leaving behind. Thus life will go on at Udayan Care! This first step, leading to many more… Forthcoming Event at Udayan Care Hutch Marathon Last year many thousands ran for causes near to their hearts in Hutch Delhi Half Marathon. Udayan Care too received bounties from 7 Corporates and more than 150 individuals, who showed their commitment to the cause of the child by running for us. Now it is time for Marathon again.
