In what is said to be a first-of- its-kind exercise in the country,
the Delhi Medical Council (DMC) has created a data bank of all
registered medical practitioners in the national capital territory
(NCT). The data bank, which is called a “ready reckoner,” establishes
the credentials of over 12,000 listed doctors in the NCT and thereby
curb the menace of quackery in the region.
Besides, by classifying the doctors on a geographical basis and in
terms of their qualifications and specializations, the people of the
region can find the right doctor and gain easy access to him by
utilizing the new facility. Union minister for consumer affairs, food
and public distribution, Shanta Kumar will inaugurate the data bank
on July 2 here at the India International Centre.
Dr Ranjit Roy Choudhury, president, DMC told Pharmabiz.com in an
exclusive interview, “What is important about the data bank is that
the credentials of all the listed doctors are checked and verified by
the council. People can call in to find out from the council about
the doctors, their addresses and consultation time. Initially, the
data bank will be made available at public places like railway
stations and airports. We will also shortly put the data on a
website.”
Through the new system, DMC also offers facility for both doctors and
patients to register their complaints with it. The facility will be
particularly useful to the large floating population of Delhi, Dr
Choudhury said.
