At the onset let me thank you for all your support to our organization in our different activities.
Every year in India 8 lakh new cancer cases are registered of which 3.2 lakh cases suffer from head and neck cancers, largely attributed to the tobacco habits, Today Tobacco addiction is a global epidemic that is increasingly ravaging countries and regions that can least afford its toll of disability, disease, lost productivity and death. The tobacco industry continues to put profits before life its own expansion before the health of future generations, its own economic gain ahead of the sustainable development of struggling countries.
In tandem with this years theme for World No Tobacco Day 31st May 2008 (“Tobacco Free Youth”) CPAA along with Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and World Health Organization is planning to organize various events, details of which is given below.
A. A skit/short play (5 minutes) competition for students from various colleges across the city. Our aim through this event is to make the youth, parents and the country at large aware of the dangers associated with exposure to deadly tobacco products.
B. Press Conference involving people from different walks of life such as film, Television, Media, Politics, Corporate heads and relevant government officials.
C. A musical show with theme ‘MUSIC INDUSTRY SUPPORTS TOBACCO CONTROL’ targeting youth through a popular band -a platform which will be used to spread the message that “Tobacco Kills”. This will be first of its kind where well known singers like Shankaar, Ehsaan, Loy, Hariharan, Mahalaxmi Iyer, KK Menon, Kunal Ganjawala, Shreya Ghosal, Shaan, Sunidhi Chauhan, Aditya Narayan, Abhijit Sawant , Zumin Garg, Aakruti, Alisha Chinai and many more will join the band in spreading the message.
Looking forward to your support in helping us make World No Tobacco Day 2008 a grand success.
Find enclosed the proposal for the same.
Thanking you,
Yours sincerely,
