CBI registers case against officer, three others
New Delhi, Nov. 30 (PTI): As part of its drive to crack down on corruption in its ranks, the CBI today carried out searches at 11 places after registering a case against one of its additional superintendents of police and three other personnel in Mumbai for allegedly taking a bribe.
The CBI alleged in its FIR that three officials — Sub-Inspector Sandeep Ramnath Chogle and Constables Pramod Indurao Ranpise and G V Nair — had unduly helped an accused in a case that was being investigated by Additional SP Rajender Singh Panwar of the agency’s crime branch in Mumbai.
The CBI suspects some cash deposits had been made through pay-in slips in the bank accounts of the two constables and the sub-inspector and his wife, sources said.
The agency claimed to have found bank transactions linking the accounts of the constables and the sub-inspector and his wife with Panwar, giving rise to suspicions that money was perhaps taken through the accounts of Chogle, Ranpise and Nair, the CBI release said.
The FIR alleged that the accused in the CBI case was helped through two outsiders who functioned as “touts” between Panwar and his staff.
The agency carried out searches at the residences and official premises of the personnel in Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Surat.
The CBI has been carrying out counter-surveillance measures against its own personnel and has registered cases against officials like Deputy Inspector General Sudhakar Rao, two deputy legal advisors and two inspectors in the recent past.
