1. Coordinator for the Globalization & Urban Poor: Mythologies from Mumbai project, to work in Dharavi
Mythologies of Mumbai, a project funded by the Ford Foundation
The distinctive feature of this project is that the researchers involved in Dharavi and Girangaon are the residents of the areas themselves. They are witnessing a historical transformation in their locality and they will bring the local community’s perspective to their findings, thus giving it a unique luster.
We are looking for a young person, preferably with some experience of community work; for immediate appointment, as coordinator of the work in Dharavi.
Job profile:
- Assume responsibility to execute the Project in Dharavi
- Assist in interviewing and selecting research assistants
- Design and implement multiple workshops for research fellows, in collaboration with the PUKAR Team, and act as a resource person depending on ones skill
- Mentor and monitor the faculty-student teams in educational institutions designated by PUKAR
- Conduct two meetings with each group per month. Assist groups in their research, conceptualizing community events and any workshops that the group may benefit from. Also assist the group in their research report and public documentation
- Conduct meetings with the Executive Director, the other coordinators of the project and the PUKAR Team with the required frequency at the PUKAR Office or at other venues
- Design and implement the various community activities related to the dissemination of the project
- Submit quarterly reports (oral and written) of the project
- Develop a larger profile for the programme and the organization through interaction with the media, institutions – educational, non-profits, corporate – and individuals
- Assist in compilation of budgetary assessments related to the project
- Assist the PUKAR team to organize multiple events unrelated to the project
Skills required:
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work in a team
- Strong coordination and organizational skills
- Good command in writing and reading English, Hindi and Marathi
- Conducting workshops / sessions for small groups
- Knowledge of data analysis for Social Sciences
Working hours and requirements:
- 40 hours a week for the Project; flexibility to work during weekends and even on public holidays
- Willingness to travel across the city whenever required
Educational Qualifications:
Masters in any Social Science subject
Work Experience:
Experience of working at the community level, especially of carrying out surveys and research work in slum areas, would be desired.
Remuneration:
Salary: Rs 18,000 per month
Travel allowance for field work as per actual

2. Coordinator for the Action Research Project:
Action Research Project, funded by the Sir Ratan Tata Trust, aims to analyze, monitor and evaluate the intended and unintended consequences of the Youth Fellowship Project, a flagship project of PUKAR, which involves research work undertaken by Youth of Mumbai city for the past three years. In assessing the impact of this project, what needs to be evaluated is whether this process – which has a huge potential for creating a new paradigm of knowledge production and citizenship empowerment is being achieved or not.
We are looking for a young person with a background in social research for the position of Project Coordinator.
Job Profile:
- Assume responsibility to execute the entire Project
- Assist in interviewing and selecting research assistants
- Monitor and mentor the team of 10 research assistants to carry out research in the field
- Conduct a regular monthly meeting to monitor and the track the progress of the Project
- Coordinate and / or conduct the workshops for the research assistants as per the requirement of the project
- Help the research assistants with their difficulties related to the research process
- Attend fortnightly meetings of the Youth Fellowship Project
- Assist in developing and producing final public documentation of the project
- Write and compile half-yearly reports to be presented to the Funder
- Assist / design the final products of the Project like making a video-documentary film, doing photo-essays, creating web page, making an Audio CDs as well as publishing a book
- Assist in compilation of budgetary assessments related to the project
- Assist the PUKAR team to organize multiple events unrelated to the project
Skills required:
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work in a team
- Strong coordination and organizational skills
- Good command in writing and reading English, Hindi and Marathi
Work Experience:
One or two years of relevant experience will be valued. However, freshers can also apply.
