CSR activities:
ING Group conduts its business principles. In all its activities, ING carefully weighs the interests of its stakeholders, customers, shareholders, employees, business partners, and society. ING strives to be a good corporate citizen. To create a strong base for all community activities these community initiatives have been unified within the worldwide “Chances for children” (CFC) programme of ING.
In India, the ING Vysya Foundation was set up more than three years ago to promote its Corporate Social Responsibility. The mandate for the Foundation is to promote primary education for under privileged children. In a country with an estimated 50 million children deprived of basic primary education and health care, enormous suuport, dedication and firm belief is necessary to make a difference and to change the scenario. This effort has been very succesful in reaching out to underprivileged children and providing them with a platform to learn, grow, and achieve through partnerships with six non-profit organizations in India.
- Akshara Foundation, Bangalore
* Balwadi Programme
The Foundation supports Akshara’s Balwadi programme to ensure that 2000 children in 118 centers get good pre-school education, and are admitted into formal schools after two years.
* Community Libraries
Akshara’s “aAccelerated Reading Programme” has provided much needed reinforcement of reading skills to thousands of children in the slums. The Foundation suuports 10 community libraries in Bangalore, impacting 2,500 children.
* Computers for libraries
To further enhance the child’s learning, the Foundation is providing funding of Rs. 10 lakh towards computers in the libraries run by Akshara Foundation.
- Christel House Inida, Bangalore
Christel House India established its first Learning Center in Bangalore in 2001 with the vision of helping children of underprivileged backgrounds break the cycle of poverty and become self sufficient, contributing members of their societies. Having earlier funded the new school facility for 700 children of Christel House, the Foundation has funded one class of 40 children during the year 2007-08.
- IIMPACT, Lucknow
The goal of the project is to bring girls not going into school between the ages of 6-14 in rural Lucknow under the fold of primary education within a period of four years. ING Vysya Foundation supports 15 Learning Centers in rural Lucknow.
- Sukrupa, Bangalore
Sukrupa is working to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy and ignorance among the slum communities through education and vocation training. Sukrupa has also opened its doors to 10 orphan children and provides them with every facility and care. Under its resident programme, selected few children around 5 years are mentored in all aspects of life under personal care and guidance. The Foundation supports the residential programme at Sukrupa.
- PRATHAM, Mumbai
Pratham is the parent organization to Bangalore based Akshara. The focus of our partnership with Pratham is to provide a safe place for minor children who arrive in Mumbai looking for work and end up as child labourers. The residential facility at Panvel, Mumbai, supported by the Foundation caters to 100 children who are provided with education, healthcare, and nutrition.
- Great Indian Dream Foundation (GIDF), Delhi
The philosophy of GIDF is based on the belief that each child deserves an opportunity for total development. Through the pre-school programme, they aim to expand and reinforce the child’s innate stengths. The Foundation supports 80 pre-schools at GIDF.
The Foundation also creates systems that ensure CSR activities within the organization. Various programmes are initiated with the employees, whether it is taking 100 children for a day out to the planetarium or watching a film with them. For ING entities in India, volunteering is more than donating time and expertise; it is a demonstration of commitment and involvement. Recently, the employees raised Rs. 65 lakh through a fundraising initiative to get child labourers to school through its partnership with UNICEF. The Foundation also launched its unique initiative with Mr. Ricky Ponting, the Australian cricket captain. In this initiative, for every run made by Ricky in the year 2007-2008, the Foundation sent one child “Back to School” through its partnership with Bangalore based NGO, Sukrupa. Ricky scored 631 runs during the year.
