Mumbai univ goes hi-tech: Distance learning now on CDs……Linah Baliga
From your classroom right into your living room, distance learning has never been made so easy.
The Mumbai University’s Institute of Distance Education (IDE) has now decided to provide alternative support services to students opting for distance learning by making study material available on CDs.
So far, IDE had made CDs available for technical courses like BSc (Computer Science), BSc (IT), MCA (Masters in Computer Application), and MA (education).
“This is a convenient way of providing study material and supplementing the learning habits of students. Study material that we are not able to provide in a printed format will now be available on a CD. We hope with this, students opting for distance education increase in number,” said D Harichandan, in-charge director, IED.
Depending on the demand, the university will make this facility available for other courses too. So far, IED has around 65,000 students opting for studies through correspondence.
Students opting for BA, BCom, and competitive exams like MPSC and UPSC will also have access to Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University Virtual learning Centre in Nashik.
