Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV) from all over India have been instructed to compulsorily register at www.think.com, an academic website. All the teachers and students including the principal have to have an account on the website and actively participate in it. It is a philanthropic act by Oracle. Theyre doing it as a free portal. This portal gives opportunities to the students and teachers of various schools to interact, said Krishnakumari, a teacher of KV INS Hamla.
M L Paliwal, principal of KV INS Hamla said, Around 10 to 15 per cent of the students participate very actively on the website and around 25 to 30 per cent need teachers initiative to work on it. As for teachers around 25 per cent are very active and the rest are still getting the hang of it. He added, All the teachers talk about their daily activities about what they teach and prepare notes, model presentations for the lessons. Even I am enrolled on it. The website is very useful no doubt and children are using it to their advantage. Slowly the remaining teachers and students will also take active participation in it. We are encouraging them to be more active, when asked about the response from teachers and students. He also told DNA Westcoast that one of the advantages for students is, If we dont have a good teacher of a specific subject in our school the students can interact with a good teacher in the subject, based on her performance on the website, and get help.
The website is for all the schools worldwide where students and teachers of various schools interact and participate. There are online competitions held for the students. Teachers prepare model chapters for subjects and put them online for students. Students prepare their notes and share them online as well. Students of these schools interact with teachers of international schools from where they can get help.
About, how this rule came up? He said, Assistant commissioner and commissioner passed the circulars about registration of students and teachers on the website. So we all did. The new batch that will be coming of students and teachers they will be made to register with the help of other staff by June 1. He also informed, There are special seminars and workshops held for the teachers by Regional office.
Krishnakumari also told DNA Westcoast, Administrators in Bangalore keep a check on how teachers, students of every school are performing. Every school is checked on the input on the site and how efficiently and effectively it is being used. To an extent, memos are sent if any teacher is not performing and giving a required input.
Krishnakumari informed, KV tied up with Oracle in 2004. Today, the work contribution of KV students and teachers is so good that we are being quoted throughout the world for our high quality of work and academic input. The schools are provided with the infrastructure and the facility of availing the website is free for us. As far as the students are concerned she said, They are really into it. They just dont get tired. Students whose time span of attention used to be maximum 30 to 40 minutes now hook on to the website for hours, its amazing. It is a self learning process for them.
Aditya Shankar, 10th standard student of KV INS Hamla and an active user of think.com is preparing for Young Space Scientist Program project given on think.com. He opinionated, KV is visualised as a downmarket thing. Think.com is the best thing that has happened to KVs. I got a chance to put up my opinion on world platform. Unlike orkut, facebook, hi5, which are social communities for scrapping and other things, think.com is educative and academically really helpful for us. Its called the 21st century skills and techniques. Today when were moving towards practical knowledge this is the thing. I have had and am having a great experience with this portal.
