School, college canteens & toilets to be graded for cleanliness
Toilets and canteens in schools and colleges across the city will soon be graded for their cleanliness and quality. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday passed a proposal to this effect.
The proposal is said to be the brainchild of Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray’s son Aditya Thackeray. Aditya met Mayor Shraddha Jadhav on Tuesday seeking the implementation of the proposal.
“Grading of the toilets and canteen facilities of schools and colleges will help increase awareness on cleanliness and sanitation amongst youngsters,” said Aditya. “I want to get this implemented across the city,” he said.
The proposal was tabled in the civic body meeting by Shiv Sena corporator Rajan Chougle.
“Hotels are graded by health department of the civic body and a similar process should be in place for schools and colleges also,” said Chougle. The Shiv Sena is said to be planning a seperate and independent body for youths as a launch pad for Aditya, a student of St Xavier’s College, South Mumbai.
