However, the civic administration has now approved a four-storey hospital which will meet the increasing demand of medical needs in the suburbs.
“Women and children requiring medical attention have to travel to three main hospitals in the city. This hospital will be able to cater to their needs,” said health committee chairperson Shubhada Gudekar.
“The BMC is in a process of appointing medical and paramedical staff for the upcoming hospital. The four-storey building which was built three years ago and handed over to the corporation will be used for this hospital. It will be operated completely by the BMC,”said the sources.
“A building has been already constructed in Borivali. This hospital will cater to the special needs of mothers and children in the suburbs. Entire cost of the project is Rs 10 crore,” Additional Municipal Commissioner Kishor Gajbhiye said.
