BMC to issue death certificate free of cost
Following complaints from a number of corporators in the civic body’s general body meeting on Tuesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to issue death certificates to relatives of the deceased, free of cost. Corporators argued that the fee payment of Rs 22 for getting the death certificate has been causing additional paper work and making the process very lengthy.
Shiv Sena corporator from Mulund, Prabhakar Shinde, said many residents from his ward have repeatedly complained that despite going to the ward office repeatedly, officials keep delaying the work. “As if the grief in losing a loved one is not enough, the officials bother the relatives even more,” said Shinde.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar said that BMC will stop charging the fee and death certificates will be issued without any cost. Mayor Shraddha Jadhav called the decision ‘a new year gift for the relatives of the deceased’.
