CSR activities
CSR has been defined as “open and transparent business practices that are based upon ethical values and respect for employees, communities and the environment – (and) designed to deliver sustainable value to society at large, as well as to shareholders.”
– The Prince of Wales Business Leaders Forum
The real challenge is to understand what it means in practice. At i-flex, we believe that by creating a more inclusive business culture, we are creating a vibrant and innovative working environment where success can be forged. Corporate social responsibility plays a pivotal role in shaping corporate behavior and actions
Our corporate vision to life is communicated through our tangible commitment to children – beyond the normal business values of price, quality and service. We’d like to raise awareness of our initiatives and activities through this section on our website.
Our CSR policy document focuses on the importance of clarity, and congruence with company purpose and values
Our corporate social responsibility is aimed at children’s issues like education and health. To further our initiative, i-flexers have voluntarily undertaken programs under the banner of ‘i-flex for children’, with several prestigious welfare organizations. Some of these initiatives are:
- A day at SOS children’s village – 25 i-flexers from Bangalore recently spent a day with 160 children from SOS Children’s Village, a non-profit, non-government, voluntary organization, committed to the care of children in need.
- Tsunami aid several days after the tsunami in the Indian Ocean snuffed out the lives of tens of thousands of people, leaving million others orphaned, destitute and indigent, massive rescue and relief efforts are preparing the ground for rehabilitation work.
Through many channels, funds were sent to the affected countries. Organizations and individuals – including i-flexers – working in these regions brought relief material to the victims. The relief materiel included food, temporary shelters, medicines, clothes and other essentials. - Time to rebuild
i-flex worked with SOS Children’s Villages of India. We joined them in their support activities for the tsunami victims, especially children and widows.
SOS Children’s Village is working extensively in the tsunami-hit regions and will be adopting children who have lost their parents / earning members in the tragedy.
i-flex joined them in the construction of a house in the SOS Village in Pondicherry, and aided them in buying two boats for needy fisher folk. - Heart-to-heart charity initiative Funds collected from the sale of food, cards, and handicrafts helped us launch the ‘Heart-to-Heart’ initiative. The vast number of employees who volunteered to participate in this endeavor ensured that the event was a successful one.
- Employee volunteers are encouraged to voluntarily undertake programs under the banner of ‘i-flex for children,’ to bring about that essential difference
- Our precious pearls ‘i-flex Sishu Punarjanmam’ was an initiative undertaken by i-flex Chennai in association with PREM, a center for the rehabilitation of physically challenged children.
The event was organized with the aim of identifying talented children in the field of sports, music, dance, and fine arts and to provide them with the required support to pursue their individual interests.
Six i-flexers from Chennai volunteered for the program, which was held on June 22, 2003. - Charity and festivity go together
i-flexers in Mumbai were instrumental in spreading joy and cheer to those less privileged on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi, by supporting the Spastics Society of India.
The Spastics Society of India is one of the largest NGOs in India. It provides care and treatment to children with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. iCE (i-flex Cultural Ensemble) Mumbai organized an exhibition and sale of a collection of articles created by these children. The assortment included articles ranging from designed mobile phone carriers and pencil holders to greeting cards, gift envelopes of handmade paper, clothbound diaries, notepads and files, soft toys, ethnic bags, kurtas and pickles, juices and spices – a truly mind-boggling array.
The funds collected from this noble cause were donated to the Spastic Society for the better upbringing of the children. - Special olympics Differently-abled children were sponsored to the International Special Olympics by i-flex
solutions. This event is conducted every four years by the Special Olympics organization. The Special Olympics Oath is “Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt.” These words also symbolize the spirit behind the games. - Road safety With the rapid increase in the number of vehicles plying the roads, the issues of road safety amongst children has been neglected considerably. Promoting road safety awareness among children in India is the i-flex way of contributing to the community
- Earthquake relief i-flex contributed generously to the earthquake relief in Gujarat.
Within a week of the calamity, we donated medicines, clothes, and other utility items for the recovery of the disaster-stricken victims. Many areas in the Kashmir valley in India were hit by a massive earthquake in October, 2005. This catastrophic event created a major challenge for rescue and rehabilitation. Estimates indicated a very high death toll and the numbers kept increasing even as the rescue operation continued. Employees at i-flex solutions were given the option of contributing a part of their salary, with the understanding that the company would contribute an equal amount from their side. A great number of employees contributed to this cause, and i-flex solutions was able to donate a generous amount towards the Times of India Earthquake Relief Fund. - i-flex pearls -flex provides support in the form of coaching, kits, and other assistance to children (i-flex pearls) at the Freedom Trust, Chennai. Reports submitted by their respective tutors and individual observations of their performance by Freedom Trust, throws light on the development of these children. Vidharthi was born hearing-impaired in 1986. With her mothers encouragement, she was enrolled into art competitions and soon began receiving accolades and prizes for her art work, at numerous competitions held at both local and inter-district levels. On December 3, 2005, she was conferred the Most creative individual award by the President of India, A P J Kalam.
Sathyanarayanan, a visually impaired student of St. Louis School for the Blind, has been identified for his talent as a leading vocalist. Mrs. Usha Bharadwaj is tutoring Sathyanarayanan, and under her guidance he has performed at numerous prestigious events and participated in various competitions winning accolades all the way. - IT initiatives driving education –flex solutions is developing a comprehensive Decision Support System (DSS) at its own cost, to help the Education Department in Karnataka to monitor the quality of elementary education in schools across the State. This is a part of i-flex’s ongoing commitment to the society and the community. The DSS will enable the department to make well-informed and data-driven decisions at all levels. This is a first of its type project in the Country.
The project will help manage large volumes of data and the analytics package will help the government manage its educational priorities in a proactive manner. This initiative aims to significantly improve the quality of elementary education in schools across the State. - i-flex for children initiative i-flex has supported many causes that benefit children. Undoubtedly, the biggest step we took as part of “i-flex for child”, was when we signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka government on June 16, 2006, to provide technology support to the “Karnataka schools towards quality education” program. i-flex will develop a comprehensive decision support system to help the education department monitor the quality of education in our elementary school system. This support system will enable the department t o make well-informed and data-driven decisions.
The Bethany Special School hosted their inter-school cultural fest called Vishesh Milan, which was sponsored by i-flex.
In November, i-flex sponsored a Corporate Cricket Tournament for SOS Children’s Village. The proceeds would be utilized for improving their infrastructure. On Children’s Day, i-flexers visited Shristi, a charitable organization working for the education of children and adults with special needs. At Shristi, i-flexers spent an action-packed day; they sang and danced with the children at the campus.
Two more similar initiatives were made possible by i-flex. The first was for Kutumba, an organization working to promote the concept of integration of physically challenged individuals in society. They needed a school-bus for their children. This request was mirrored by Socare Ind, an organization whose mission is to make a difference to the lives of destitute children and make them contribute positively to the society. On January 20, 2007, the keys of two mini buses were presented to the respective organizations.
In Chennai, i-flex created the CORUS FUND at Ramakrishna Mission Students’ Home. This fund will sponsor books and uniforms to orphans and destitute students for the year 2006-07.
The Freedom Trust in Chennai operates two initiatives which i-flex is a part of. The first one is for Grama Vikalang Punarjanmam, a physiotherapy and rehabilitation program in rural Tamil Nadu. The money donated would be used to identify 300 physically challenged children from four villages and adopt them, so that they can be rehabilitated. The second initiative is a ‘Talent Promotion Scheme’, which would train physically challenged children and give them scholarships for special training in their chosen field of art.
I-flex donated funds for building classrooms for children from the Tilak Vidyalaya Higher Secondary School in Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu. - other initiatives As part of the i-flex for the child initiative, a school for the economically backward children at the Hope Foundation in Bangalore, received additional infrastructure support from i-flex. i-flex also donated funds to Vatsalya Trust, Mumbai, an orphanage and adoption agency, to assist in providing basic amenities to underprivileged children.
Other charitable efforts that have received our support are:
Sandeepan School for rural children near coastal Karnataka, India
Agastya International Foundations mobile science lab that travels through the states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, allowing children to experiment with science projects with locally available material
i-flex sponsored a documentary film on child trafficking produced by Kalsoothri, the theater wing of Sahitya Kala Mandal, Mumbai.
