ACB men to keep eye on cops…..Jatin Anand
A scant but elite batch of officers from the Delhi Government’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) will keep a hawk’s eye on Delhi Police officers stationed at various venues during the Commonwealth Games. “Officers from the ACB will be posted at both the competition venues such as the various stadia as well as non-competition venues such as the Media Centre and Games Village among others,” said a senior Delhi Police officer requesting anonymity.
According to sources, a meager number of its sanctioned strength of 110 officers has been roped-in for the entire duration of the fortnight-long event.
“Around 10 per cent of our workforce of 110 officers has been made a part of the exercise. That may just be about 11 officers but even that number is enough for the purpose as they will enjoy fluidity of movement and flexibility as far as duty timings are concerned,” said a senior ACB officer on condition of anonymity.
The ACB officers will be posted in teams of two and four at various locations and will keep an eye on Delhi Police officers and on security concerns, the officer said.
“We have been briefed to keep an eye on the officers posted everywhere from the outer to the inner security perimeter. Apart from that we have been asked to be vigilant about their activities. Even the slightest corruption is not to be tolerated. Officers slacking-off during duty will be reported so that appropriate action can be taken against them,” said the officer.
Though Deputy Commissioner of Police (ACB) ID Shukla admitted that his officers would be participating in the exercise, he refused to comment on the function that such a small contingent of officers was required to perform.
“Yes, our officers will be posted for duty during the event; they have been asked to help consolidate the security-arrangement infrastructure and will merely be adding to the strength of Delhi Police officers,” he said.
