City schools can become members of heritage club …..Manthan K Mehta I TNN
The Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (Intach) has proposed to start heritage clubs whose membership will be open to schools in Mumbai.
The idea is the brainchild of Tasneem Mehta, managing trustee of Bhau Daji Lad Museum. Whenever schoolchildren go on museum tours, they march past the artefacts. We have taken a number of initiatives to create curiosity about the artefacts, which tell us a lot about the city, its culture and the rich heritage, she said.
Any school can become a member of the club. We
plan to organise contests for schoolchildren in the form of painting competitions and even quizzes. The club will also arrange regular visits to heritage sites in Mumbai and around the city, explained Mehta, who also plans to start a training programme that will help teachers explain the various aspects of museum exhibits to children.
