Description

Festival Inauguration (Sunday, 14^th January 2007):

• Kite Festival on 14^th January at Police Gymkhana, Marine Drive
• Dindi from Marine Drive to Gateway of India
• Inaugural Ceremony at Gateway of India

International participation at MF 2007 (Guest Country – Australia):

Headed by: Shri Divya Bhatia

Committee includes: Officers of Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade Government of Australia and Officers of Consulate of Japan.

The Australian programs proposed for inclusion in MF 2007 are:

·        Dislocate (Physical Theatre) – on 15^th, 16^th and 17^th January 2007 at Outdoor locations

·        Strange Fruit (Street/ Public Performing Art) – The Spheres on 14^th January at Gateway of India and 15^th  & 16^th at the Police Gymkhana, Marine Lines

·        Australian Art Orchestra – A Fusion program including Australian and Indian artistes at the Gateway of India (25^th & 26^th Jan)

·        International Art Installation – ‘Printemps Ete’ by Akiro Isogawa and Contemporary jewelry design exhibition – 14^th ~ 28^th January

·        Indoor theatre performance

·        Aboriginal Dance Group performance

·        Author and book reading at Mumbai International Book Fair

·        Films at Film Festival

The Japanese programs proposed for inclusion in MF 2007 are:

·        Japanese Pottery Exhibition

·        Japanese Films at Film Festival

·        Seshi Mai (Lion Dance) – a Japanese Folk Dance performance

• Display of Naval Boats – 26^th January at Anchorage, off Gateway of India
• Aerial acrobatics by ‘Sagar Pawan’ and Naval helicopters – 26^th January at Marine Drive

Gateway Festival

Food Festival

Headed by Smt. Rashmi Uday Singh

Food Festival Committee includes: Shri Kamlesh Barot (FHRAI –WI), Shri Riyaaz Amlani (Mocha), Shri Suhas Awchat (Goa Portuguesa), Shri Gogi Kohli (AHAR) and  Prof. Coelho (Catering College), among others

• Heart Warming Foods – 14~ 28 January at Kalaghoda. Live street acts between 7pm and 11 pm
• Maharashtrian cuisine at ‘Maharashtra Mazha’ – 15^th ~ 28^th January at Bandra Reclamation
• Koli Sea Food Festival at Versova (18^th ~ 21^st January) & Cuffe Parade Fishing Villages (25^th ~ 28^th January)
• Discounts at restaurants and food courts at shopping malls to be arranged by HRAI – WI & AHAR – 14^th ~ 28^th January
• Community Feasts viz. Idli festival at Matunga (E) and Muslim Food Festival at Mohd. Ali Road

Shopping Festival 

• Over 2,000 retail outlets and a dozen of Mega Malls are expected to participate by offering discounts to shoppers. Late night shopping (until 3 a.m.), raffles and on-the-spot contests  are being planned as value additions.

Crafts Festival      

Organized by – Mumbai University

Parampara –at Kalina Campus.

A craft pavilion wherein the crafts of the different regions would be showcased. Live demo’s of the making of the crafts by master-craftsmen of respective regions and Indian folk art.

Children’s Festival

Children’s Festival Committee includes: Kum. Rakshanda Khan, Kum. Raell Padamsee and Smt. Juhi Chawla, among others

o       Book reading by a celebrities viz. Naseeruddin Shah, Gulzar, Shabana Azmi,Javed Akhtar, Sushmita Sen, Urmila Matondkar, Vijaya Mehta and Shobha De, at different venues like Mumbai International Book Fair.

o       Workshops on Shooting, Horse Riding (by the Army on 24^th ~ 26^th Jan at Mahalaxmi), etc. for school kids and skill imparting workshops for the under-privileged (in association with Children Aid Society, Spastics Society of India, Juvenile Delinquency Centres, Akaanksha, Project Crayons, etc.)

o       Visit to Traffic Park and other limited access locations viz. Coin Museum, Naval Boats, CST Bldg., GPO, BMC Bldg., Raj Bhavan and State Assembly, among others

o       Cultural Quiz for children 

o       National Flag event with ‘Shaktimaan’ (Shri Mukesh Khanna) at Shivaji Park on 26^th January

o       Children’s Weekend theatre at Ravindra Natya Mandir

·        Boot Polish, 26^th January – An event involving the shoe-polishers from all over city. To be organized at the Hanging Garden (Old Lady’s Boot House) in association with the Society of Shoe-Shiners

Sports Festival  

Sports Festival Committee includes: Shri Dilip Vengsarkar, Shri Ravi Shastri, Shri Nana Patekar, Shri Viveik Oberoi, and Shri Vivek Singh, among others 

• Mumbai International Marathon organized by Procam International – 21^st January
• Gully cricket – Elimination rounds at maidans across Mumbai city Semi’s and Finals at Police Gymkhana on 26^th January
• Shooting Competition – organized by Rifle Association
• Auto rickshaw race  – Finals on 26^th January
• Fishing Trawler Race – Finals on 26^th January
• Polo Exhibition Match and Equestrian Display by Indian Army – 24^th ~ 26^th January at Amateur Riders Club, Mahalaxmi Race Course

Mumbai Dance Festival  – Nrityotsava

Organised by: Nalanda Dance Research Centre

Dance Festival Committee includes: Dr. (Smt.) Kanak Rele, Shri Shashi Vyas, Smt. Urvi Vora and Smt. Mandeera, among others 

• Mumbai Dance Festival – 18^th ~ 21^st January at Amphitheatre, Bandra Fort. The Indian classical dance forms performed by young artistes selected from across the country.

Youth Festival

To be organized jointly by Nehru Yuva Kendra, Mumbai University, Times of India and Mumbai Festival Committee

• National Youth Camp organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK)
• Inter-collegiate Music competition

Theatre Festival

·        Organised jointly by Director of Culture, between 15^th and 28^th January, the Mumbai Theatre Festival will stage plays in English, Hindi, Gujrati, Marathi and other regional languages.

Workshops folk theatre and amateur theatre will be incorporated in the schedule.

Folk Festival – ‘Maharashtra Mazha’

To be jointly organised by MTDC & Tourism Cooperative. Maharashtra Mazha, a Maharashtrian cultural fiesta will include performances by renowned artistes, Maharashtrian cuisine and an exhibition of tribal art & self help groups. Will include:

o       Dhangar Dance Competition (Gaja Nritya, Ovya, Kaifti)

o       Lezim & Malakhamb Competitions

o       Tribal Dance (Chakri Gauri, Tarpa, Dhol, Bohada, etc.)

Mumbai Art Festival  – 15^th ~ 28^th January

o       Exhibition of ‘Raja of Aundh’s Art Collection’ organized by Dept. of Archaeology

o       International Art Installation titled ‘Printemps Ete’ by Akiro Isogawa and Contemporary jewelry design exhibition – 14^th ~ 28^th January

o       Exhibitions, installations and workshops at various locations

o       Heritage walks

o       Taxi & Rickshaw Art competitions

Mumbai Film Festival  – 15^th ~ 28^th January

• Proposed outdoor public screening of classics spanning 5 decades at selected locations viz. Dharavi, Kurla – Nehru Nagar, Bhandup, Malwani, Girgaum, Vakola,  Worli  Sea Face, Kala Chowkie, Deonar, Jogeshwari – Behrambaug, Lalbaug, and Borivali
• International Films (from Australia & Japan) to be screened in theatres

Cultural Tourism

To be organized by Tourism Co-operative
