MARCH 30
THE state government has detected around 7.6 lakh unauthorised cable
connections in Mumbai and Thane.
This was revealed in a written reply by State Revenue Minister Narayan Rane
to a question asked by Madhukar Chavan (BJP) and others in the state
Legislative Council on Friday.
The members had questioned the revenue department about the bogus cable
connections in Mumbai and Thane and the action taken by the state government
in this regard.
In the reply, Rane has said that a survey in the districts of Mumbai and
Thane had revealed that the cable operators had not registered around 7.6
lakh cable connections with the state government by September 2006.
The district collectors had been asked to recover the unpaid professional
tax and penalties under the Mumbai Entertainments Duty Act, 1923.
Accordingly, the district collectors had started issuing notices to the
cable operators concerned for the recovery of the entertainment tax, which
had been evaded by them.
