Now, a musical fountain for city
To be built in a garden at Marol, Andheri, it will be promoted by MTDC as a tourist attraction ……….MUMBAI MIRROR BUREAU
Like Mysore and Hyderabad, Mumbai too will soon have a musical fountain. The citys first musical fountain will be built by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation at the Bharat Van Garden on Military Road, Marol, over the next two to three months.
While it will be the citys first musical fountain, it is not the first of its kind in the Mumbai metropolitan region. CIDCO had developed a musical fountain outside Vashi station in Navi Mumbai, but it closed down a few years ago over maintenance issues. CIDCO had given maintenance of the fountain to a private company.
The garden at Marol, which is spread over seven acres, is being maintained by Military Road Residents Association, and they will maintain the musical fountain too.
We have also planned an amphitheatre in the garden, said Minister of State for Tourism Suresh Shetty.

He said that MTDC will also help in promoting it as a tourist attraction.
Bids for the project were invited a few months ago, and a Bangalore-based firm has been awarded the project which is estimated to cost Rs 2 crore.
Work will start in ten days. We plan to have shows with laser lights all through the week and will have a minimal entry fee to recover maintenance cost. We are looking after the garden for the last eight years. This place was a quarry before we developed the garden, said Suresh Nair, a member of the residents association.
Bharat Van garden, spread over six acres was once barren land frequented by beggars and drug addicts. A group of 50 members from the neighbouring Military Road society along with the BMC have successfully transformed and beautified it
