Heres another example of how citizens put up a united fight to save the only open space in their vicinity.A clan of 40,000 families from Magathane in Borivali (E) rallied together and succeeded in getting a stay on work going on there.
The plot,admeasuring 13,000 sq ft,which was under the jurisdiction of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) was reserved for a park.
Last week,residents noticed tall tin sheets being erected along the circumference of the open plot to fence it off.

Enquiries revealed that the open plot was being developed for a residential project and a mall was slated to come up at the site.
Local resident Sanjay Karande stepped in to help residents take the matter forward.Of the 40,000 families in the area,over 10,000 signatures were collected,and the process is on.
