Spanish Gandhism
Vishal Baristo, Pavitra
Gandhigiri phenomenon seems to be catching on and this time it is a Spanish tourist in Ajmer who has decided to pursue Mahatma Gandhiâs principles to reach his end, that of buying land for a football club he started in Pushkar.
Itâs not just Indians who have been swept off by the wave of Gandhigiri even foreigners are now adopting it to get their way albeit peacefully.
Non-violent protest
A 59 year old JM Rojas originally a tourist from Spain but now Pushkar in Rajasthan is his adopted home. He is on a hunger strike a non-violent protest against the Pushkar district administration for refusing permission to purchase a four acre land for setting up a football club and now he has decided that a dash of Gandhigiri is called for.
âI will follow Gandhiji till the end of my life,â said Rojas
Influence of Gandhian values
His dream football team the Vegetarian an obvious influence of the Gandhian values on him is now languishing without a football field to practice on. The district administration is impressed by Rojas’ non-violent struggle but says their hands are tied.
âThe law says that if Rojas wants to buy a land for a trust registered in Delhi prior permission of Reserve Bank of India is needed,â said A.Sreenivas, Sub Divisional Magistrate.
Rojas spends time shuttling between Spain and Pushkar but itâs unclear how long he can keep his campaign going. Doctors say he is too fragile but Rojas is not ready to give up.
