An Appeal for donations
People’s Institute of Rural Development – PIRD, Latur is working on the issue of ‘Child Labour’ since two decades and more in the state of Maharashtra especially in the Marathawada region consisting of districts such as latur, Osmanabad, Nanded and Parbhani.
Our mission is to create awareness among the communities and families to ensure the education of their child, create love and passion for education among the children, generation of awareness regarding the importance of education and through education eradication of child labour practice.
Our sincere, heartfelt and studied effort to reduce the social problem of child labour in rural areas has result in some positive consequence. But the intensity of the problem being of complex nature challenges coming before us is also of numerous natures.
One of the ways to bring the children out of the clutches of child labour problem, we envisaged it to be ‘Informal Education’ to children. But after experiencing the results, we learnt that informal education cannot succeed as the formal education given in schools. Also it is very important to have expected funding and facilities to the ‘Short Term School’s Program’. This in future can ensure education of children and reduction in elimination of children from schools.
To create awareness among the communities, people and the children about the ‘right of children to education’, To bring together school-going and non-school-going children together and to break down the social barrier among them, To motivate the parents and the entire community to send children to school, To create interest in schooling among the non-school-going children and to help them to reduce fear of school in them are the objectives of the Educational Awareness Campaign.
The educational Awareness campaign for eradication of child labour will cover various activities such as arranging of sports events, street plays, entertainment programs in order to create affection for schooling & attract the children who are away from the school. During this campaign our community worker will meet the parents, do home visits as well as they will call meeting of village level education committee, women & youth committee and discuss with them regarding the education of children, their school & concerned problems. Such program will be performed at least for two to three days in per village for better results and involvement of community and parents in educating every child in the village.
