We are obliged to inform you that one of our supplementary education
recipient-school beneficiary “Kille Mahuli Gramin Vidyalay” in Pivli,
Shahapur near Bhiwandi have been much distressed by the severe damage to
their school in third week of March, due to a heavy cyclonic wind. The
school has students, over 70% from Adivasi tribes, and the school has always
given a good result at the S.S.C exam ( 80% in 2008)
The school has lost the roofs of 4 classrooms and 2 office rooms, besides
breakage of angles that hold the roofs. The extent of damage to the
structure is estimated to Rs 2,00,000/-.
It is a pity that not a single sponsor or donor has come forward to help a
school in distress, and that nearly 400 students mostly belonging to the
Adivasi tribes will have no roof over their heads when school will be
re-opened on 15th June.
That this incident was reported in many daily newspapers as documented by
the school authorities, in late April and early May, yet no one has come
ahead to provide this basic school need. This is very pathetic situation, in
a place so near Bombay, where the construction Industry is bustling with
building activity.
Any one interested in connecting with this school may please contact Nitin
Orayan, Founder Trustee, Learning Space Foundation.
