Employment opportunities for the deaf in India

Students at a school for the deaf in India are receiving employment opportunities as line inspectors at Coca-Cola India’s (CCI) bottling plant near Varanasi. CCI has hired an instructor to help them learn skills on the job, and also provides bus transportation for the students to and from the plant. The initiative, part of CCI’s drive to employ physically challenged youth across the country, was designed to help reduce students’ dependencies on their families, while providing the Company with essential manpower. Last year, the state of Tamil Nadu named CCI “Best Private Company” for its employment of 80 physically challenged youth in Chennai, while the government of Andhra Pradesh recently awarded CCI “Best Management Award” for its human resources policies.http://www2.coca-cola.com/ourcompany/wn20050520_deaf.html
