ADVANCED TRAINERS TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR PROFESSIONALS OF NGOs ON RURAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT
BACKGROUND
Promoting micro enterprises is now a well-accepted means to facilitate economic development in rural areas. The Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) are contributing substantially to the process. Building capacities of such institutions to assist the rural youth in assuming entrepreneurial identity has paid rich dividends. Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI) has contributed to the process through Training of Trainers on Rural Entrepreneurship Development. With a view to increase the outreach on rural entrepreneurship development is proposed. The details below:
OBJECTIVES
This programme aims to;
Ø Sensitize participants to complexities and challenges in micro enterprise creation and management
Ø Help the participants become aware of the process of Micro Entrepreneurship Development,
Ø Help the participants develop competencies (knowledge, skills and attitudes) required to identify, select, train and assist potential entrepreneurs to set up and manage micro enterprises
FOR WHOM:
This programme is addressed to the functionaries of NGOs who have the potential to become successful Trainer-Motivator-cum-Small Business Counsellor. The participants must possess at least a University Degree with about 3 years of experience in developmental activities in rural areas. Exposure to promoting income generation activities and/or forming Self Help Groups will be a distinct advantage. The programme will admit 25 participants from NGOs operating all over India.
The participants should be in the age group of 25 35 years.
CONTENTS:
Consistent with the objectives, the programme will have the following key input modules:
· Micro enterprise development concept, strategy and relevance.
· Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) an overview.
· Identification and selection of potential entrepreneurs.
· Process of Business Opportunity Identification and Guidance to entrepreneurs in opportunity choice.
· Process of preparing a simple Business Plan incorporating feasibility assessment of a micro enterprise and facilitating potential entrepreneurs to prepare sound project plans.
· Designing a situation specific training intervention for entrepreneurship development.
· Implementation and management of an EDP
· Process of developing entrepreneurial competencies.
· Mechanisms to provide counselling and follow-up support to potential entrepreneurs for launching the ventures.
PEDAGOGY:
The programme is designed to be highly participative making use of several adult and experiential learning tools like conceptual notes, simulation exercise, role plays, case studies, group exercises, apart from lecture discussion-sessions.
Participants will be encouraged to share and reflect on their real life experiences.
DURATION AND VENUE
The training programme will be of 3 weeks duration from 27th December 2006 to 13th January 2007. The program would be residential and would be conducted at EDI Campus, Ahmedabad.
COURSE FEE
Though the course has been sponsored by SIDBI, to bridge the gap in finance, a nominal registration fee of Rs. 2,500/- has to be borne by the sponsoring agency in addition to participants travel cost, etc. as per the norms of the sponsoring agency. Nominations will be confirmed subsequent to selection process.
Nominations should be accompanied by a DD of Rs. 2,500/- per participant drawn in favour of Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, payable at Ahmedabad.

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDI), set up in 1983, is an autonomous institution registered under Societies Registration and Public Trust Act and sponsored by the Industrial Development Bank of India (IDBI), Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation of India (ICICI) Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI) and State Bank of India (SBI) with an active support of the Government of Gujarat. The sprawling campus is built on twenty-three acres of land near Ahmedabad. During 1991, the Institute started regional office at Bangalore to look after the activities in Southern States followed by three more regional offices in Lucknow (UP) and Guwahati (Assam) and Cuttack (Orissa).
The Institute is a National Resource Centre governed by its own board. Committed to entrepreneurship education, research and training. It had earned a great deal of national and international recognition for its efforts as reflected in support it has received from the World Bank, International Labour Organisation, UNIDO, Commonwealth Secretariat and several other international agencies.
EDI is now an Inter-Regional Centre jointly set up by Government of India and UNIDO.
EDI over the last thirteen years is devoting its attention to Rural Entrepreneurship Development in the NGO sector by conducting training programmes, action-oriented research with more than 200 NGOs with the financial support of NABARD / SIDBI.
