TIMES NEWS NETWORK
Mumbai: With the objective of empowering rural women, identifying and
developing their dreams, and finding a footing in the world, SNDT University
launched its Times Centre for Youth Development and Research on Wednesday
evening. The classes will begin in a month’s time on the SNDT campus, Juhu,
and in approximately a year, the centre will be set up in Palghar.
“The youth of India constitute 40% of the total population and are a
valuable human resource for the country,” said vice chancellor of SNDT
university Chandra Krishnamurthy. “This centre concentrates on empowering
women who have not had a chance to leave their mark. It is therefore
essential to tap their creativity and channelise their dreams,” she added.
The programme will focus on technology training. In addition, the youth
will also be trained in fine arts, theatre, sports, language proficiency,
plumbing, mechanics, vermiculture and horticulture.
Moreover, it aims at giving the youth an opportunity for community
involvement to achieve specific social goals. It will also help develop the
skills required to seek employment and create educational opportunities
especially for women who have dropped out.
