In a 1st in India,Guj to grade its schools…….Bharat Yagnik
Ahmedabad: In a first in the country, the 50,000-odd primary and secondary schools in Gujarat will go for accreditation wherein these government,grant-in-aid and private schools will be graded according to the infrastructure and quality of education imparted by the institutions.
A decision to this effect was recently taken by the state education department which has also decided to make the accreditation mandatory for all schools.
This decision is being viewed as yet another move by the state government, which is troubled by the relatively poor standard of education in the state. In fact, the state government has launched the first Gunotsav,a massive exercise to spot-assess the standard of education in primary schools in the state last year, which revealed that many students of Class 5-7 could not even read and write. This year, the Gunotsav will assess the levels of education imparted in even grant-in-aid and private schools.Principal secretary for education Hasmukh Adhia said that initially it was planned that the grading will be undertaken by the state government agency but there is a shortage of people to undertake such a mammoth exercise.Hence,an independent agency will be entrusted the job to carry out the accreditation.
