Panel formed to review AICTE, UGC functioning
Mumbai: Acting on the recommendations of the National Knowledge Commission, the Union human resource development ministry has set up a high-powered committee to review the functioning of the All-India Council for Technical Education and the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The notification said the 22-member committee will review the functioning of the UGC/AICTE and critically assess their role keeping in view the demands of access, equity, relevance and quality of higher, technical and university education.
The committee will draw up and enforce standards for higher and technical education in state universities and introduce a system of incentives and disincentives to prevent lowering of teaching standards. TNN
