Youth and Education
DSPML Akanksha Centre at St. Xavier’s High School, Mumbai
Under the Sponsor-a-Centre scheme, DSPML is the sole sponsor of the Akanksha Centre at St. Xavier’s High School, Mumbai. The center combines intellectual development and academic learning with personality development and practical training to approx. 60 children from under-privileged backgrounds, of which over 50% are girls. Classes are held at the school Monday through Friday.
Akanksha Mentoring Program
Run under the aegis of Akanksha, the Mentoring Program is a weekly program, organized at DSPML’s offices where employee volunteers (Mentors) provide practical and academic guidance to under-privileged children through mentoring, while honing their social and interpersonal skills. The prime objective is to give them the self-confidence to make their way in the world.
Office Assistants’ Employee Children Scholarship Program
This Scholarship Program has been instituted to encourage children of our permanent office assistants to further their education. The program provides for merit based cash scholarships.
Akshaya Patra Foundation
A Strategic program to address two of the most pressing problems of India: Hunger & Education. The Akshaya Patra Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, has been providing free meals everyday to poverty stricken school children in and around Bangalore city (India’s Silicon City) in southern India. In just two years since it was founded, the program has scaled to provide over 43,000 (as on August 2002) hygienic and nutritious meals every day through an extremely cost-effective program. Akshaya Patra has demonstrated and is now showcased as an operating model that can strategically address two of the most pressing problems for poor children in India: hunger and education.
Health -Employee Awareness Program
One of the objectives of the CSR Committee in the area of health is “Better Health for all.” To further this objective, the CSR committee organizes regular blood donation and medical camps along with health awareness lectures and counseling programs for employees in order to empower individuals through great education and awareness with regard to their own health.

Impact India Foundation
DSPML has been associated with IMPACT India Foundation, A registered Public Trust promoted by the United Nations Development Programme, UNICEF, and the World Health Organisation in association with the Government of India, in undertaking the Disability Reduction Project. DSPML also supported the highly acclaimed LIFELINE EXPRESS, the world’s first hospital on a train, during the Gujarat Earthquake relief
D. S. Kothari Hospital This hospital located in south Bombay is committed to providing qualitative health care services at affordable prices to middle class patients. This hospital has a bed strength of over 175. The hospital provides operations and other critical diagnostic services to in-patients as well as out-patient.
Environment and Wildlife
Recycle & Reach Out (R&R) is a program initiated to enable employees to recycle / donate item(s) to deserving charities such as Asha Daan – run by Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity, CPAA (Cancer Patients Aid Association). Old greeting cards are donated to Jai Vakeel school for the mentally challenged where school children use the cards in school projects. Used Toner and printer cartridges are donated to the Dhanraj Pillay Academy. The sale proceeds of the refilled cartridges augment the corpus of the academy.
Nature Trails
Environmental conservation and appreciation is a primary concern in today’s world of concrete jungles and polluted air. With this in mind, DSPML, in association with the Bombay Natural History Society, organizes Nature Trail and Camps at the Borivali National Park for employees and their families/friends.
Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS)
DSPML is assisting BNHS in some of the conservation efforts in Borivali National Park. Situated within the city limits of Mumbai, the National Park is referred to as the green lungs of Mumbai and is critical to the health of the city’s water supply. The forest is also home to endangered flora & fauna including leopards as well as the atlas moth–the world’s largest moth.
