V-Care is an emotional support group for cancer patients. “Our mission is to provide help, hope, awareness and education to cancer patients and their families through our services”, says Vandana Gupta, founder of V-Care.
It was during her own treatment for cancer that Gupta decided to start V-Care. Her positive attitude took over her traumatised mind and sent her on the road to recovery. In the last 15 years, her organisation has grown and today, it boasst of 45 volunteers.
“Initially, I was too depressed at being diagnosed with cancer at 42. But eventually, I decided to fight it with a positive attitude and do something useful with my life. Cancer changed the course of my life — it gave me a purpose and a new meaning,” adds Gupta.
V-Care also conducted a seminar titled ‘Life after Cancer – From Distress to De-stress’, where topics such as ‘Moving beyond fear of recurrence’, ‘Adapting to life after cancer’, ‘Effect of cancer on intimate relations’, ‘Dealing with issues of relations and other psychological aspects of cancer’ were discussed.
The seminar consisted of a panel of eminent doctors who spoke on the various aspects based on life beyond cancer treatments.
“We take this opportunity to spread the message that people can and do survive cancer. We also organised a day of fun and frolic for patients and their families away from the stress of treatment, at a beautiful picnic spot in Karjat. This picnic was a great opportunity to relax and interact with survivors,” adds Gupta.
“This event is to emphasise the message that cancer does not mean death. Hundreds of people are surviving cancer and leading absolutely normal lives. Making cancer patients smile gives me immense satisfaction,” concludes Gupta with a smile.V-Care helpline and toll free number 18002091101
