St Catherine’s Home has tied up with Vividha-a home furnishing store; for conducting an art exhibition and sale.
The home is the fourth largest adoption centre in the country. “With funding being stopped it was difficult to raise money required for running a home,” said Sister Udaya of St Catherine’s.
Due to the recession, funding to NGOs had been greatly affected. “Through this initiative we will bring our efforts together and collect funds to run the home by promoting the talent of children at St Catherine’s,” said Veena Deepak, CEO of Vividha.
The home has 400 children, out of whom a hundred are HIV victims, girls rescued from the business of flesh trade and abusive households.
HIV affected children at St Catherine’s Snehanilaya and Snehanjali homes were provided blank canvasses and oil paints to paint. These paintings are now ready and will be sold at Vividha stores nationally. Each painting will have the child’s photograph and profile. “We hope to raise around Rs12 to 15 lakh,” said Deepak
The stores in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore have dedicated special space for the paintings to be displayed. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the home.
