Save water call ‘falls flat’ in Mulund society…….Pandurang Mhaske
Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had appealed to Mumbaikars to not use excess water for Holi since the city is facing its worst-ever water crisis. Ignoring the BMC’s diktat, Primrose housing society in Mulund (West) allegedly organised a rain dance on Holi day by using water from fire hydrants in the society.
Dilip Hajare, BJP corporator, has alleged that the members of the society wanted to celebrate Holi with a rain dance and so they wasted water from the fire hydrants. “On Monday, the society members celebrated Holi in their premises, for which they used water from the water hydrants installed in the society,” said Hajare. “The water is reserved for emergency fire fighting situations. Though it was their water, it was not right to waste water for rain dance.”
Hajare added that he requested the society members to stop wasting water but they did not pay heed to his demand. Hajare then complained to the civic ward office, and the ward office took action against the society. The BMC turned off all the water hydrants in the society.
Hajare has also written a letter to the assistant commissioner T-ward and the chief fire officer to take action against the people who wasted water unnecessarily.
