MCA to organise tourney for schools who’ve been barred by MSSA.
MUMBAI: Here’s a silver lining for schools located outside the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) limits, who have been barred from participating in the Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) tournaments. The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), in one of its executive committee meetings on Tuesday, has decided to organise an inter-school cricket tournament on the lines of the Harris and Giles Shield for those schools.
Confirming the development, MCA joint secretary, Lalchand Rajput, told DNA, “The Mumbai Cricket Association has been organising many camps in areas outside BMC limits. Since the schools in those areas do not have an opportunity to play, we have decided to organise a tournament for them.”
Rajput said that the tournament is slated to start this year but a date for the same had not been decided yet.
The tournament can breathe a new life among school teams in areas like Thane, Navi Mumbai, Kalyan and Dombivali. When MSSA barred these schools from participating in their tournaments, the schools had expressed their disappointment as they would be deprived of quality tournaments.
