Smile is the most precious treasure one can gift anyone. The city has many underprivileged people who have no reasons to smile.
But there are few people who are putting their best to make it happen. A group of people has made it possible to give an extraordinary moment of joy to the underprivileged people. Kshana, NGO, is a group of students and young working professionals.
The NGO has 14 core team members and more than 35 volunteers. It comprises many performers like magician, dancers, singers and actors. The group organises at least two events in a month at orphanages, old age homes, drug rehabilitation centre, etc across the city. Members as well as performers go to these places and spend three to five hours with the underprivileged people. The idea is to provide entertainment to people and spread a smile.
The organisation arranges for musical instrument, projectors and screen for movies, paper and colours for the drawing and painting, dresses for the actors and participants which are required for various events.
Besides this they often gift gifts like carom board, books, colours and small musical instruments depending on the money collected by the NGO. Roshni Dadabhoy, one of the active member says, “Whenever we visit them, we try to bring about a smile on their face. These few moments give them the strength to fight back and face the difficulties they suffer in their day-to-day life.”
Kshana is a brainchild of Ritesh Thakkar. The concept came to him while in college he got a chance to visit a shelter for blind. The visit made him realise that these people have nothing to be happy about as they are neglected by all. When he shared his idea with his friends about forming a group of people who will come forward and work for the underprivileged people. And since then there is no looking back. They have made a difference to more than 100 underprivileged societies till now.
“We not only entertain them but also integrate social themes like how we can save the environment etc with our events. We don’t have an address but we are well connected through our website,” says Thakkar.
Kshana wants to do more for the underprivileged but due to lack of funds and volunteers the frequency of organising such events is limited. So, the organisation will happily welcome any kind of aid. It’s just a smile that can make all the difference and you could be that smile.
