Celebrate a dry Holi, says Mumbai mayor………..Pandurang Mhaske
Mumbai: Mumbai’s first citizen Mayor Shraddha Jadhav has appealed to the Mumbaikars to celebrate a dry holi this year.
Mayor Jadhav said since there is not enough water due to poor rains last year, people should not waste water.
The civic administration also issued a circular to all ward offices informing them not to supply water through tankers for Holi. However, if the requirement is genuine the ward officer will have to confirm it and only then provide water from the BMC’s tanker.
According to the BMC’s hydraulic department, every year the city wastes about 120 million litres of water on Holi day.

Mumbaikars, however, seem to have paid heed to Jadhav’s decision. There is no demand of water registered with tankers owners either.
“We received inquiries from societies and other organisations a few days ago. Most wanted water to celebrate Holi. But as the festival came near there is not a single requirement for this particular occasion,” said Rajesh Singh, Tanker Owner from Mahim.
“The city uses approximately 100 to 150 tankers of water every year for the Holi. But this year there have been no demands,” said M Gupta another tanker owner from South Mumbai.
