Fazlani L’Académie Globale School at Mazgaon is in a dilemma after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said it will not renew the school’s lease, which expires in March 2008. The BMC has also put up a board of the Gujarati Walpakhadi Municipal School on the wall of the International Baccalaureate (IB) School.
The swank school came up on the premisesafter the BMC closed the Gujarati-medium Walpakhadi School, saying that there were not enough students to keep it going.
Mangesh Satamkar, chairman of education committee in BMC said that the IB school had removed the BMC school board and ran the IB school in its place. “While giving rooms on leave and licence basis there is a clause to display the name of the municipal school,” he said.
“We will not renew their lease as the school has violated all terms and conditions. A notice from the municipal commissioner has been sent to the school and they will have to make alternate arrangements,” he said.
Satamkar said that the deputy education officer Dr M Ansari has been asked for an explanation in the matter. “He will be suspended, if found guilty,” Satamkar said.
When AK Fazlani, the chairman of Fazlani L’Académie Globale was contacted he said, “I cannot comment on the matter as I’ve not yet received any notice. But the BMC has to think about the 600 students studying in the school. Permissions were granted through legal channels and the BMC cannot just cancel it now.”
