Police train city students……….Prachi Nayak
In the coming months, Mumbai Police’s Alert Mumbaikar squad will visit over 80 colleges to train pupils to tackle emergency situations.
Recently the squad made a presentation to Rizvi College students. “We are teaching them basic things like checking under seats in buses and trains, reporting suspicious movements,” said constable Poornima Kamat, a member of the Alert Mumbaikar squad. The squad apprised students about measures they need to take if they found suspicious parcels. “If they find a strange object, which is unclaimed by people in the vicinity, we advised students to contact helpline numbers and evacuate bystanders,” informed constable Unnati Thakkar. The police have counselled students on the evacuation plan. “We have taught students evacuation techniques and ways to convey sensitive communication without causing alarm. In a crisis situation, they have been told to make people believe, that the procedures are a part of a safety drill,” said police inspector Sunil Jain.
