Social responsibility is a high priority with the 1200-plus professionals, pushing the limits of innovation and excellence, at DCBL.
The Company is actively involved in organizing social welfare programs, which provide health and other amenities. These program are intended both for the public in the surrounding villages and the employees’ families.
These includes running schools for the employees’ children, providing scholarships to outstanding students, operating milk distribution schemes and organizing various cultural activities, tournaments and games.

The Company projects the spirit of professionalism with a scientific approach to human resources related issues both in principle and practice.

Environment

From our energy efficiency to our innovative practices and technology, we are dedicated to operating our facilities with the utmost respect for the communities and environment in which we all live and work.

Dalmia Cement has a deep concern for the conservation of ecology and a pollution free environment. In this direction, the steps taken include wind energy generation and waste minimization through waste recycling and control.

In tune with the universal call for conservation of energy, Dalmia Cement has made headway by:

�€€€€€€€ Using Lignite as fuel.

�€€€€€€€ Installing power control devices to run larger machines so that, part of the electrical energy consumed by the machines can be recovered, thereby reducing the consumption of electricity.

�€€€€€€€ Installing high efficiency separator to increase the cement grinding capacity that will ultimately result in lower consumption of electrical energy.

�€€€€€€€ Installing a PLC Control for Cement Mills.

�€€€€€€€ Using alternate fuel in pyro-processing.

�€€€€€€€ Installing bucket elevators in place of airlift pumps.

�€€€€€€€ Installing vertical roller mills for cement grinding.

�€€€€€€€ Installing high efficiency Electrostatic Precipitators in all the production units.

�€€€€€€€ Having a Sewage Treatment Plant separately for the Factory and the Colony.

�€€€€€€€ We have a dairy farm where we have a variety of plantations including economic crops, pollution reducing crops thus maintaining the nature at its best. We also have Goshala (Cow breeding place) wherein number of cows is reared.

�€€€€€€€ Our residential colony is fully surrounded by trees and lawns to have pleasant atmosphere.

Producing cement is not the be all and end all of Dalmia Cement. Dalmia Cement believes in creating a better social environment for the welfare of people. A belief strongly reflected in this self-contained township.

Besides facilitating water supply, better road conditions and developments in other areas at Dalmiapuram, the people of the township, backed by the company, have also been organizing health camps, assisting construction of schools and building temples, churches and mosques for the neighbouring localities.
A place where pure drinking water was scarce, today has innumerable bore wells supplying people that necessity. A well looked-after dairy farm with all the modern facilities has enabled the town to have its very own cooperative Milk Supply Center.
The objective of the township at Dalmiapuram has been to make the society a close-knit family.

DCBL has promoted 3 educational institutions and one Skill Training Centre in this rural area for the development of youth. It strongly believes that the Nation will be worthy only when its citizens are educated. All the above institutions cater to the needs of the rural population.

�€€€€€€€ Dalmia Higher Secondary School

This school was started in the year 1950 and offers education from 1st standard to +2 Standard. There are 1900 students studying in this school and teaches in both English and Tamil media. 60 teaching staff and 15 non- teaching staff support the school. First 3 ranks in +2 in the Educational district are from this school This school has continuously bagged championship for all categories of sports for the past 10 years in the Educational District. This school also is recognized by the District Administration for inculcating saving habits among the students and teachers and has been awarded as the ‘best school’ in the District. Extra auricular activities such as N.C.C., N.S.S. (National Service Scheme), Junior Red Cross, Scout and Guides are well established.

�€€€€€€€ Vivekananda Matriculation School

This school was started in the year 1989 and offers child-oriented education from L.KG. to X standard. This school offers education in English medium and is considered a premium school in this Education District. This School produces 500 students of excellent quality every year. The school concentrates on co-curricular activities like sports, debate, drawing, painting, craft and fine arts and the students have won many prizes in inter-school and district levels. Education of Character development and inculcating moral values among students are the chief concern of the school management.

�€€€€€€€ Corporate Contributions For Neighboring Schools

Apart from operating the above educational institutions, DCBL is constructing a school in Palanganatham (neighboring village) with an investment of Rs. 8 lakhs. Further, about 35.schools, noon-meal shelters have been constructed to enable the children to have the food in a clean atmosphere. Fifteen Schools in the neighbourhoods have been provided with stools, benches and separators.

�€€€€€€€ Cash Assistance For Poor Students

The company, through Rotary Club of Dalmiapuram, has been extending cash assistance to the poor & deserving students. On an average, a sum of Rs. 1.30 lakhs is allocated for the purpose of education of rural youth.

�€€€€€€€ Industry Educational Institutions Interaction

DCBL also encourages students’ visit to its factory to have a first hand glimpse of factory situation and also interacts actively with the students and faculty members and apprises them on the expectations of the industry.

Water Management for local community

Whenever monsoon fails, there used to be acute shortage of water in and around Dalmiapuram. To mitigate this hardship, company had drawn up ‘Water Management’ Program. According to this scheme, needy villages were identified with the active participation of local people and 42 bore wells were provided. The surrounding villages that were provided with bore wells given in the enclosure.
Simultaneously, the lakes in various villages were deepened so that the rainwater harvesting is carried out whenever there is rain. Company also helps in building overhead tanks for storing and supplying of potable drinking water to villagers.
The above initiatives had improved the water availability and the amount invested in this regard is Rs. 12.50 lakhs. This initiative has enhanced the corporate image among the locals and a friendly atmosphere.

Assistance for religious and Infrastructure

In order to maintain the Indian heritage, the company promotes renovation of age-old temples, churches and mosques by providing free cement or cash assistance. The famous Srirangam Temple and Lady of Good Health Shrine Church (Vadugarpet) in Trichy (T.N.) was rebuilt with Cement supplied by us. Annually we have earmarked about Rs. 10 lakhs for this purpose.

Health Programs

Under ‘Better Health Tomorrow’ scheme, health camps such as (b) polio vaccination (b) hepatitis*6 vaccination (c) eye care (d) general medical camp (e) dental care (0 diabetic detection camp (g) osteoporosis detection camp (h) women well-being camp etc. are carried out at frequent intervals. Regular treatment and follow up actions are taken.
Also educational and awareness talks on health unkeep by eminent doctors in the field of cardiologists, cancer detection (oncologist), gynecology, psychiatrist, and general surgeons are held.
Free surgeries for restoration of eyesight and spectacles are supplied free of cost to the needy persons. About 500 persons were operated upon for restoring eyesight during the last 5 years.

Rural Sports Promotion

Nation is in the hands of the youth and therefore character, discipline and competitive spirit will make them good citizens. In order to inculcate the above virtues, DCBL strives to promote sports for rural youth.
As far back as 1982 DCBL has conducted national tournaments such as N.C. Roy Memorial National Level Table Tennis Tournament. The company in participation with District Administration has provided financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 25 lakhs for building sports stadium at Ariyalur (Perambalur District) and an indoor stadium and a swimming pool at Trichy. The company has also established two sports clubs in their premises namely (a) Dalmia Tennis Club and (b) Dalmia Recreation Club that conducts periodical District and State level sports competitions. Tamil Nadu Inter-cement factory sports are also conducted at periodical intervals to promote fraternalism among the youth employed in cement manufacturing organizations.
Company also sponsors by providing sizeable financial assistance to promote various games like volleyball, ball badminton, table tennis, cricket, football etc at District and State level. Annually, DCBL allocates a sum of Rs. 50,000 for promotion of sports.

Other Community Services

Apart from involving actively in the above focused projects, DCBL has also contributed in the following areas:

�€€€€€€€ Extends helping hand to the poor people in distress by providing free food and supply of construction materials to the dwelling units, which are damaged due to fire , floods etc.

�€€€€€€€ Immediate medical relief and supply of food to victims of train accidents,

�€€€€€€€ Extends financial help to orphans and differently abled poor persons

�€€€€€€€ Providing financial assistance to Music academies in order to preserve and promote traditional Indian classical music.

Our might to empower communities

As a concerned corporate, we are conscious of our responsibilities towards the communities in whose midst our manufacturing and business operations are conducted. Our community development initiatives are undertaken to improve the quality of life of people in the surrounding areas. Notable thrust areas of some of these initiatives are education, community development and cultural enrichment.
In education for the young, the company endeavours to provide for basic study material, midday meals and even entire school infrastructure. It also runs an industrial training institute for up-skilling and providing vocational training for the workers.
For the development of the farming community around its sugar business, DCBL helps farmers with superior farming techniques to aid them to increase their farm output and thereby their income. From extending loans to farmers, to organising experience and knowledge sharing fairs, it all forms part of the company�s CSR activities.
To enrich cultural lives of the communities the company strives to host annual festivals, provides for festivities during the season, sponsors dramas and music programmes.
Through these efforts DCBL has endeavored to maintain a harmonious relationship with the environment and its social surroundings by adding value to the bio-system of which it is an integral part.
