Our aims & objectives
?To design and implement integrated rural and slum development programmes for health, education, improved nutrition and socio-economic upliftment.
?To promote a better awareness and understanding of environmental issues.
?To highlight the links between basic personal and household hygiene, sanitation and health.
?To improve access to affordable, quality health services and expand medical facilities to rural areas.
?To introduce group vocational training programmes for building income generation skills.
?To empower communities for better control of their lives by participating in rural development programmes.
Our programmes are designed in accordance with the needs of the community. The key areas of operation include:
?Promoting hygiene and health – in collaboration with the Chunni Lal Medical Trust, we operate in 12 adopted villages providing medicare services and conducting mass awareness drives.
?Promoting formal and non-formal education – For children who have dropped out of school as well as ones who have never been to school, Sundesh provides the assistance and opportunity to take up formal education. Sundesh also works for promotion of adult literacy and has opened 2 teaching centres.
?Promoting income generating activities – To help communities find means of livelihood that suit their skills, Sundesh has established vocational training facilities for cutting and tailoring, bee-keeping, mushroom farming and food preservation.
?Promoting self-reliance – We encourage people to form cooperatives and self-help groups that can ultimately take care of the communitys needs. There are already 25 Self-help groups of economically weak families and groups formed by members of lower and middle-income families.
At Sundesh the aim is not to provide charity, but to enable deprived communities. So that they have the resources to lead a better life. And ultimately be a dynamic and resourceful arm of mainstream society.
Promoting health and hygiene amongst the underpriviledged through the Chunnilal Medical Trust
The Chunnilal Medical Trust has a dedicated team of doctors and specialists in social medicine. They organize regular medical camps to provide medical services in areas that have no access to proper hospitals or medical centres. The Trust also conducts regular health awareness camps for the local communities. Where they are given simple solutions for every-day health and hygiene. They are also motivated to follow mother and child health programmes, including immunisation and proper ante and post-natal care.
– Organising the Plant for Life programme for schoolchildren – to create environmental awareness amongst young minds
At Dabur we appreciate the devastating impact of ecological degradation, caused largely due to unsustainable modern lifestyles. And we know that the best way to turn back the tides is to build awareness amongst young minds that are still open to knowledge. With this in mind Dabur launched a programme in 2001 to increase awareness about plants in schoolchildren.
The programme started by organising awareness camps in various schools. Children were initiated into the world of plants and trees through colourful flip charts and storybooks. They were also involved in creative exercises like poster competitions that helped generate a lot of excitement.
In the next phase, the programme built up a team of children who would plant trees with medicinal properties. Named P.L.A.N.T. – Protect Life And Nature Team, this team has helped gather momentum for eco-regeneration activities and encourage more and more children to join in the movement. The programme was initially launched in Delhi and so far more than 75,000 schoolchildren have already become members of this team.
