Cyclists in the cityhave circled thedate 10/10/10onthe calendar and aregetting set fortwocycling rallies thatday.
These rallies arebeing organised under the aegis of USbased global initiative350.org.
The rallies aim to promote greentransportandraiseawareness about climate changeand will begin at Carter Road, Bandra, at 6.30 am, with participants pedalling toWorliand back on two separateroutes.
The Bicycle Project rally seeks to combineagreencause with its ongoing campaign to getbicycles to tribal children.
Werecycle in adifferent way,saysproject co-founder, SimonaTerron.Oldcycles are revamped and sent to tribal children, whootherwise have towalk at least6kmtoschool. TenTaTen, the second rally, is an effort to spreadawareness about the dangersofcarbonmonoxide released into the atmospherebythe burning of fossil fuels likepetrolanddiesel.
Weareexpectingmorethan 100participants,saysorganiser Faisal Thakur,abicycling enthusiast. The two rallies are part of alargerglobal initiative,witheventsorganisedacross 180 countries by 350.org on the once-in-a-decade10/10/10date.
