In a raid on Monday, Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a Class I official of the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) for allegedly accepting a bribe from a real estate developer. A policeman, too, was arrested for accepting a bribe in a dowry case.
According to the ACB, the complainant wanted to launch a construction project in Kalyan and had approached Sunil Joshi, executive engineer, who was in charge of the town planning department. According to the complainant, Joshi had demanded a bribe of Rs 60 lakh to pass the proposal. After the complainant paid up the said amount, Joshi further demanded Rs 15 lakh. Then he approached the ACB following which a trap was laid and Joshi was arrested red-handed.
“Joshi’s office and residence are being searched and further investigation will be transferred to our thane unit,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (ACB) Niket Kaushik.
In the other incident, police sub inspector Shakeel Pathan, attached to the Agripada police station, was arrested for accepting a sum of Rs 5,000 from a businessman. Pathan was the investigating officer in a dowry harassment case in which the complainant was involved. When the complainant approached Pathan regarding the case, he demanded Rs 12,000 from him. After being paid up, Pathan later demanded more money.
