Child rights body awaits Cabinet nod on office space
Mumbai: The proposal to allot an office space to the Child Rights Commission (CRC) set up by the state government will soon be put before the Cabinet for its approval, according to women and child welfare minister, Harshavardhan Patil. He held a meeting with department officials in Mantralaya on Thursday. The commission has asked for a 1,200 sq ft office at Worli, but till then, it has requested temporary accommodation in Mantralaya, said the minister.
The commission has demanded a budgetary allocation of Rs 55 lakh, he added. We will put these demands before the Cabinet for its approval.
The Child Rights Commission is the first of its kind in the country and was set up following a study conducted by the Centre which pointed out that the rate of child abuse in the state is increasing. The study also said that the 53% of the countrys children are sexually assaulted and Maharashtras figures were in line with the national percentage of 50.57.
The commission will be dealing with health problems, sexual abuse, child labour, child beggars, orphans, and domestic violence faced by children.
