Certification & Evaluation procedure for Multiple Disabilities
Evaluation of Multiple Disabilities
Whenever there are more than two values to be combined, first two values are calculated using the formula
a + b(90-a)
90
Where a = higher value
b = lower value
To clarify the calculation of percentage of disability in a case of multiple disabilities where there are more than two disabilities, hypothetical example of calculation of percentage of disabilities is give below :-
Suppose in a patient, there are three disabilities, i.e., Locomotor impairment, Hearing Impairment, Visual Impairment and the individual calculation of percentage of disability of
Locomotor = 30%
Hearing = 20%
Visual = 15%
The formula a + b(90-a)
90
Will be applied to the two disabilities having higher percentages, i.e., Locomotor impairment (30%) and Hearing impairment (20%). The figure arrived by applying this formula will be
30 + 20(90-30) = 30 + 13.3 = 43.3 %
90
Again the formula a + b(90-a)
90
shall be applied to calculate the total percentage of three disabilities, i.e. Locomotor impairment and Visual Impairment ( 15%)
Where a = 43.3% ( Combination of Locomotor impairment and Hearing Impairment)
b = 15% ( Visual Impairment)
= 43.3 + 15 (90-43.3) = 43.3 + 15(46.7) = 43.3 + 7.78 = 50.81%
90 90
Thus the total percentage of multiple disabilities in this case will be 50.81%
