PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR BLOOD STORAGE CENTRE
Name of the Project: Blood Storage Centre in Sane Guruji Rugnalaya, Kinwat, Dt: Nanded.
Governing Organisation: Bharat Jodo Yuwa Academy’s Arogya Prabodhini.
(A trust registered in 1993 under societies registration act 1860 and Bombay General Trust Management act 1950. Registration No is MAH.5124/F-3713)
Responsible & Authorized Person: Dr Ashok Belkhode, M.S. (General Surgery)
President, Bharat Jodo Yuva Academy.
Aim of the Project:
To start Blood Storage Centre in Sane Guruji Rugnalaya with the help of Red Cross Blood Bank, Nanded as it is the need of the hour.
Why Blood Storage Centre is needed in our project in Kinwat:
Ø Serious accident-victims or any bleeding patient lose more blood on the way to the hospital due to non-availability of conveyance as they take a long time to reach the hospitals in Kinwat. They also suffer as there is no blood storage in this region. Consequently, they have to be carried to the nearby cities, like Nanded (150 km) or Yawatmal ( 140 km), bleeding continues & many of them lose their life on the way.
Ø Scores of difficult & important surgeries are performed in Sane Guruji Rugnalaya, blood required for these surgeries has to be brought from either Nanded or Yawatmal.
Ø The incidence of severe anemia is very high in this region. It is 90 % among women. The reasons for this high incidence are:
- Childhood malnutrition
- Early marriage & pregnancy
- Bleeding in unattended deliveries at home
- Frequent deliveries
- Unattended incomplete abortion
- Lack of nutritious food
- Inadequate or no treatment of diseases accompanying heavy loss of blood due to poverty & ignorance
- Frequently intense diseases, like malaria, worms etc
Ø The incidence of diseases accompanying loss of blood is high due to dense forest. The incidence of thalassemia, chronic malaria, sickle cell is also very high.
It’s extremely important to receive blood quickly in the diseases accompanying loss of blood. Due to the above reasons, it is essential to start a blood bank here. Government has decided to start blood banks at places where blood is not easily available. This blood bank will be run under the guidance & with the help of Red Cross Society, Nanded. This blood bank guarantees the supply of blood to needy people. Blood will be collected by holding blood donation camps regularly.
Introduction:
“Arogya Prabodhini” is an organisation working in the field of health under the banner of “BHARAT JODO YOUTH ACADEMY”. B.J.Y.A. is a trust registered in 1993 under society registration act 1860 and Bombay General Trust Management act 1950. Registration No is MAH.5124/F-3713.
Bharat Jodo Youth Academy finds its roots in the Bharat Jodo Abhiyan, i.e. “KNIT INDIA” bicycle March led by renowned social reformer Hon. BABA AMTE. Academy draws her inspiration from the great Gandhians Shri S.N. SUBBARAO and late Shri YADUNATHAJI THATTE. The academy aims at chanelising the YOUTH POWER in this country for socio-economic transformation for better tomorrow through the channels in which we believe, like
National integration, work for downtrodden, struggle against injustice, constructive work, eco-friendly development in all aspects, propagation & diffusion of science so as to build up or strengthen the country.
Geography and Project situation :
Kinwat is a taluka place, 150 kms away from the district headquarter Nanded. Being a tribal taluka, it is devoid of all the modern amenities & medical facilities. It is predominantly inhabited by Adivasis (kolam, Gond, Andh and Pradhan), Banjaras and many such backward communities. These tribals cannot afford to go to the cities to have expensive medical treatment. Sane Guruji Rugnalaya is providing such expensive medical treatments to the tribal patients for the last 8 to 10 years & thus been able to help the tribals to some extent. One of the most dire needs during emergency is the supply of life-saving blood. Since there is no blood bank in this region, it is difficult to provide blood in emergencies. Adequate supply of blood is an important need during surgery, accident, anemia & many such situations.
Kinwat is a big village of thirty thousand population and a Taluka Headquarter. It is located in a remote place and the only tribal Tehsil of the Marathawada region in Maharashatra State. It is near Andhra Border and 150 kms away from District Headquarter Nanded.
Total population of Kinwat taluka is nearly 3 lakhs; predominantly inhabited by Adivasis (kolam, Gond, Andh and Pradhan), Banjaras and the most backward communities. Being the only taluka, which is almost entirely tribal, it is beautiful with its rich forests and hills. It could be developed as a tourist spot if proper communication facilities are made available.
Ramagad Fort to the North West and SAHASTRAKUND Waterfall to the South are the fabulous spots. UNAKESHWAR is famous for ancient heritage of Ramayana time. It is famous for hot water springs. As the legend goes, Lord Rama created these water springs and pots by shooting an arrow to cure a sage from leprosy. This is also known as Sharbhanga.
Mahur is another holy place and newly formed Taluka Headquarter. It is thought to be one of the Shaktipithas out of the three and a half; and is known for a place of lord Datta, Anusayamata and Renukadevi. The situation of Pandav Caves is having its historical importance in addition to the above.
As this area is situated in deep forest and surrounded by Telanganna of Andhra Pradesh on one side and river Painganga on the other, it was very notorious for Naxalite activites also.
On the other hand the whole Taluka is out of reach of all kinds of modern facilities.
After completing my masters in general surgery, I selected Kinwat area to help & share my experience & knowledge for the people pf Kinwat & the surrounding. For the last 11 years, I have been working in the field of health thru government system as a Medical Officer, thru Sane Guruji Rugnalaya, Arogya Prabodhini & other private agencies.
