“BHARAT JODO YOUTH ACADEMY”. (B.J.Y.A.) is an organisation / trust registered in 1993 under societies registration act 1860 and Bombay General Trust Management act 1950. Registration Number is MAH.5124/F-3713.
Bharat Jodo Youth Academy finds its roots in the Bharat Jodo Abhiyan, i.e. “KNIT INDIA” bicycle march led by renowned social reformer Hon. BABA AMTE. Academy draws her inspiration from the great Gandhians Shri S.N. SUBBARAO and late Shri YADUNATHAJI THATTE. The academy aims at chanelising the YOUTH POWER in this country into socio-economic transformation for better tomorrow through national integration, work for downtrodden, struggle against injustice, constructive work, eco-friendly development in all aspects so as to build up or strengthen the country.
Geography and Project situation
Kinwat is a big village of thirty thousand population and a Taluka Headquarter. It is located in a remote place and the only tribal taluka of the Marathawada region in Maharashtra State. It is near the border between Maharashtra & Andhra Pradesh and 150 km away from the district headquarter Nanded.
Total population of Kinwat taluka is nearly 3 lakhs & is predominantly inhabited by tribals (kolam, Gond, Andh and Pradhan), Banjaras and the most backward communities.
Being the only talula, which is almost entirely tribal, it is beautiful with its rich forests and hills. It could be developed as a tourist spot if proper communication facilities are made available.
Ramagad Fort to the North West and SAHASRAKUND Waterfall to the South are the fabulous spots. UNAKESHWAR is famous for ancient heritage of Ramayana time. It is famous for hot water springs. As the legend goes, Lord Rama created these water springs and pots by shooting an arrow to cure a sage from leprosy. This is also known as Sharbhanga.
Mahur is another holy place and newly formed Taluka Headquarter. It is thought to be one of the Shaktipithas out of the three and a half; and is known for a place of lord Datta, Anusayamata and Renukadevi. The situation of Pandav Caves is having its historical importance in addition to the above.
As this area is situated in deep forest and dwells and surrounded by Telanganna of Andhra Pradesh on one side and river Painganga on the other, it was very notorious for Naxalite activities also.
On the other hand the whole Taluka is out of reach of all kinds of modern facilities.
WORKING PATTERN
The basic theme of our work is “REACH THE UNREACHED” . Prabodhini has been working in this area, i.e. Kinwat for the last ten years. It works in association with and with the help of an institute named SANE GURUJI RUGNALAYA, which is the only hospital in this area of 100 km diameter and well -equipped with nearly all modern & necessary facilities.
This hospital works on Low profit – No loss basis. Prabodhini is helping the people of this area through various health activities. We have organised the following activities up till now. Local Govt. dispensary, Halo Medical Foundation etc. are always in association.
A.
HEALTH ACTIVITES
1 Diagnostic Camps For Remote Villages.
This taluka comprises of number of small villages, tandas, gudas, padas, wadis, vastis etc (Total 124) scattered all over the forest and are very remote. About 10 villages get cut off from the surrounding
world in rainy season. About 70 villages have no transport facilities at all. People have to travel on foot for about 8-12 Kms. In such villages, we organize medical checkup camps and we examine, give treatment and health education to about all, specially women, children and aged people.
2 Specialized Camps.
Organization of specialized camps is one of the most valuable activities. We call specialists & doctors of various faculties such as Plastic surgery, Orthopedic, E.N.T., and cardiologists etc, that are not available here in Kinwat.
3 Blood Donation Camp.
To raise the awareness about Voluntary Blood Donation, especially among YOUTHS, we tried donation by 221 donors in a single camp (2001) at a remote taluka place like Kinwat. It might have been the unique example in Maharashtra. We achieved this number by conducting BLOOD DONATION COMPETITION for college students. An attractive trophy was presented to the Winning College at the hands of Hon. Anna Hajare & Dr. Kumar Saptarshee on the occasion of birth anniversary of Sane Guruji. Blood donation camps have now become a regular activity.

But due to poor economical condition, poor knowledge & faith in old customs, villagers do not prefer to get operated. We organize surgical camps for such patients in very reasonable charges every year in the month of December.

LINK WITH GOVT. SYSTEM
Fortunately Kinwat taluka has a good network of Govt. health services. Total 14 P.H.C.’s, 1 Civil Dispensary & 3 Rural Hospitals are here. But unfortunately one has to admit that these services are not very effective. We always take help of this infrastructure in organising the health activities, e.g. conducting diagnostic camps, giving information to beneficiaries etc.
On the other hand we participate actively and help Govt. system. in launching various campaigns e.g. pulse polio, measles etc. Local Civil Dispensary is always a helping hand in conducting no. of health programmes.
