INSPIRATION
Apna Home Animal Shelter was started about five years ago by an animal lover, who would bring home any injured stray animals left mercilessly to die, soon the person realized that the one BHK Apartment was turning into a make shift hospital for an injured dogs, cats, birds, reptiles and many more
Apna Home now needed to be transformed into a full fledged Animal Shelter and Hospital as there is no place else where these animals could be taken care of in the big city like Navi Mumbai. Though Navi Mumbai boosts of being the mega city of 21st century, but does not have a single animal hospital or shelter.
A need for a trust for animal welfare is realized at Apna Home, so the trust begins to take roots.

Apna Home is ready to promote a cruelty free and compassionate relationship between humans and animals.
Apna Homes primary focus is to build a full fledged well equipped Hospital and Shelter Home of International Standards for animals in an area admeasuring of about 10 acres.

2. Apna Homes primary focus is on animal welfare in the mega city and its main objective is to attend to stray animals, those are victims of merciless human treatment and accident cases due to negligence.
3. The second main object is to make disabled and paralyzed animal shelter where they can live happily till the end; otherwise they are killed or euthanized.
4. Apna Homes dream is to give handicap support to animals without limbs or any organs to get over their handicapped. A special type of cart design would assist disabled animals to move and would provide as artificial limbs. This pioneering effect would be initiated at Apna Home.
5. Apna Home would facilitate an animal ambulance service for weather wild or stray sick, injured or wounded animals. They would be transported to the veterinarian at the Hospital Shelter.
6. Here affronted animals would find a temporary shelter.
7. A special easy telephone number would be made available for emergency calls.
8. The temporary shelter would provide sterilization programmers, adoption schemes and relocations of wild and exotic rescued animals and an opportunity for sick / wounded animals recover from their ailments.
9. Apart from the above the shelter would also provides veterinary advice to pet owners for better up keep of their pets.
10. Apna Home has a view to operating a veterinary mobile clinic in the future, which would cut down the need for animals being cared for at the shelter after sterilization programmers and would also target outlying villages to carry out vaccination and sterilization.
11. Apna Home would provide Operation Theaters for treating animals that require amputation, surgery, stitches, animals involved in accident requiring surgery.
12. Apna Home would incorporate a post operative facility in its premise for recuperation of animals that have under gone operations like amputations. These kinds of surgeries requires at least two weeks to one month of post operative care. The shelter facility will house such animals that have undergone operations.
13. Stray dog Management- Apna Home plans to take up vaccination and sterilization programmes for the stray dogs in the locality. Vets specifically trained in spay and neuter techniques would be recruited with the view to implementing an effective and successful sterilization programme in Navi Mumbai.
14. Protection of animals by awareness of animal abuse -Apna Home would also inspect and deal with incoming complaints about neglect, cruelty and animal abuse. Apna Home would contact the owner of the abused animal and try to convince him to take better care of his pet. If necessary, legal action would be taken against law breakers by Apna Home.
15. Education and Awareness to the Community – Apna Home plans to promote awareness and educational messages through all possible media, which focuses on every aspect for Apna Home work, including stray dog management through to the responsibilities of pet ownership.
16. Apna Home will produce educational materials such as banners, pamphlets, posters, educational audio-video; etc that will be distributed and shown at all interested primary schools, telling children about animal welfare, educational materials will also be distributed through the mobile clinic. The help reduce the overload of pet animals in Navi Mumbai. Advertisements will help to promote sterilization of pets to prevent unnecessary killing of puppies.
PROJECT
Enormity of the proposed Project will spread over an area admeasuring about 10 acres with various buildings for various departments. Apna Home desires to locate the proposed project at Koppar Khairne or Khargar or Panvel. The sites are currently under study. The entire project will be executed in a phase wise manner and depends on financial resources. Apna Home has priority to have a better and bigger land. The estimate project cost would be around 2 crores. The estimated operative cost would be around 3 lacs per month. The project will be managed by professional qualified veterinary doctors and staff.
LOCATION
Currently Apna Home is considering three locations for the proposed project for ease of accessibility across Navi Mumbai. These locations are follows.
Koppar Khairne, Khargar and Panvel
Apna Home also bags land from the Central, State, Local Government Authorities and Corporate.
BUILDING
Apna Home has engaged reputed Architects, Mr. Arun Pai for the design of the various buildings. The design would base on international standards and for the better affiliation with the animals.
BUDGET
The estimated budget of the project is to Rs. 2.00 crores approximately. Apna Home has full faith to raise the fund within the preset period with the bless of animal lovers. The budget includes building cost, equipments and infrastructure cost. The budget does not include land cost.
MEANS OF FINANCE
Apna Home can not contemplate a project of this size using its current funding resource; therefore a concerted capital fun raising campaign has designed

The Hospital and Shelter Home would be controlled by a Council elected by the members. The Council would be responsible for policy matters, financial issues and day to day affairs.
CURRENT AFFAIRS
The Apna Home is administrating a diminutive Hospital and Shelter for stray animals at Sector 4, Behind State Bank of India, Nerul, Navi Mumbai 400 706 with inadequate resources. The Hospital and Shelter Home is functioning in premises admeasuring about 400 sq. ft. on rental basis. The Apna Home gives out its aims with very very limited resources.
