About Adoption Agencies in Mumbai
The Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) is an Autonomous Body under the Ministry of Women & Child Development, Government of India.

We called up some of the CARA listed Adoption Centres in Mumbai, and received the following information:
– Most have a shortage of children available for adoption as compared to the demand for children
– 2-3 years waiting period in almost all cases
– 1 out of 10 persons who applies every year is able to get a child for adoption
– priority to domestic adoption as there is a long waiting list
– some centres have a special quota of 40 % for inter country adoption
