Flood Relief Work 2008 in Bihar, U.P. & West Bengal

A Brief Report as on 10th September, 2008
In the wake of the recent unimaginable devastating floods in Bihar and other states, our following centres have started primary relief operations among thousands of flood victims, as mentioned below.
Bihar
Katihar Centre has distributed 13,500 kg chira, 2,700 kg gur and 5,400 packets of biscuits to 4,250 flood-affected persons belonging to Pranpur block of Katihar district and 2,500 persons belonging to Madhepura district who have taken shelter in the temporary shelters at Rupauli town of Purnea district. The relief is continuing.
Muzaffarpur Centre has distributed 9,000 kg chira, 1,030 kg sugar/gur, 57 kg biscuits, 400 kg flour (Ata), 1200 Matchboxes and 1,06,620 halogen tablets to 31820 flood victims belonging to 33 villages of Saharsa and Madhepura districts. The relief is continuing.
Patna Centre has distributed chira, milk powder, biscuits, and cooked food among thousands of flood-victims in Fervisganj sub-division near Nepal border. Arrangements have been made to distribute baby food, biscuits, utensils, sari, dhoti, towel and blanket among 10,000 flood-affected families. The relief is continuing.
Uttar Pradesh
Lucknow Sevashrama has distributed 2,000 kg chira, 500 kg sugar, 2,400 kg rice, 190 kg dal, 490 doz. banana, 2,649 kg vegetable and 690 kg flour (Atta) to 6,170 flood victims belonging to about 930 flood-affected families – sheltered in temporary camps, belonging to 8 villages in Bakshi-Ka-Talab Tehsil of Lucknow district. Besides, 1,189 patients were treated. Arrangements have been made to distribute sari, dhoti, childrens garments, Duree and blankets among 900 flood-affected families. The relief is continuing.
Varanasi centre has distributed 5,100 kg chira, 500 kg sugar, 6,000 kg flour, 600 kg dal, 5,040 packets of biscuits, 4,736 buns, 600 litres kerosene oil, 1,200 matchboxes, 830 candles and 1,73,900 chlorine tablets to 15,530 flood victims belonging to 39 villages of Haraiyaa and Maharajganj areas in Azamgarh district. Besides, 556 patients were treated in the above areas.
West Bengal (2nd Phase)
Malda Centre has distributed 6,000 kg rice, 300 kg dal, 1,800 kg potato, 600 kg salt, 300 kg sugar and 120 kg biscuits to 558 flood-affected families (about 2,800 persons) belonging to 4 villages of Harishchandrapur II block in Malda district. The relief is continuing.
