List of materials/ services needed: Following are the basic priority for the affected people: 1) Boats/life jackets for volunteers those who are involved for rescue and relief distribution. 2) The immediate need is dry food and baby food. Ready to eat food is more suitable for these areas as there is absence of fuel. 3) Polythene sheets as there are so many people taking shelter on embankments, railway tracks, road and other open higher place. 4) Drinking water is a major problem for these areas especially for those who are living on the embankment and roads. 5) Mosquito nets/matchsticks/candle/torch/ 6) First-aid and medicines, life saving drugs, ors, bleaching powder 7) Sanitation is a problem for women. Temporary toilets are required to keep the environment clean, will help in controlling the spread of epidemics. 8) Temporary shelter.

SAMTA GRAM SEWA SANSTHAN The rescue operation started on 28th August evening first batch of about 70 have been rescued from Jagatpur School roof and taken to safety at Bahbhana Gawa Embankment the operation continued on 29-30 August all together 500 hundred people mostly dalits have been rescued to safety. Flatten rice, satu, salt and drinking water was provided to them. With the raising of flood water the embankment was also became unsafe, after walking for 2 Km they have been transported to the Purnia Railway Station through tractors and jeeps. A motorboat with great efforts was hired with an agreed rate of Rs 100 per passenger. 2 confirm Death has been reported from this village one person due to drowning and Prem Das 40 Years died he was living on a platform raised of Bamboo he has refused to accompany the rescue boats. Rescued people are dropped at this point. On 30-31St August dry food Sattu 1 quintal, Flatten rice 50kg. Puffed rice 2 bags and salt and Gur was distributed. On 1st September Khichari (a kind of porridge) has been provided to about 1000 people. Medical post has also been established here with essential medicines for flood related diseases. A qualified Dr. Akhilesh Kumaris supervising. Cloths: used cloths with Local Collection are also being provided to children and women. Team Leader: Mr. Ashok a volunteer of SGSS Sitamarhi At Olipur boat is providing service to the marooned people in stagnated flood waters. Health Post: Supaul: TDH partner MGVP, MVA, Samarpan along with other civil society organisation continued rescue work through 8 motorised boats with 50 trained volunteers under the leadership of Laleswar. The team is Boat Damaged: Since the boats are negotiating in marooned habitation areas some hidden object in water damaged 2 boats on 31st evening, but no causality. Only the steering and navigational tools /equipment (pankahi) got damaged. Since the people are very cooperative and eager to help the fellow human being, in neighbouring market place shopkeepers opened their shop in night to provide necessary parts to repair boats lath mechanics work overnight to repair the boats. With this over night operation boats have sailed again in the morning and are rescuing people. Since water is receding in some areas now receiving camp is shifted two km away at Annadchowk from Belhi ghat. If the water continue to recede with this speed the navigation of these large size boats will be difficult. Rescue team is confident that the rescue work will be completed by 5th September. Health Saherasa Situation Report: Rescue operation expected to be completed by 9th September 2008; people trapped in flood waters will be rescued and shifted to safer places. The rescue efforts have been stepped up in last 2 days with the Thousands are still trapped in some areas water level is increasing and other part it is receding. Rescue work is expected to be completed by 7-9 September 2008
