SUB: REQUEST FOR HUMANITARIAN SUPPORT TO FLOOD AFFECTED FAMILIES OF SUPOUL,SAHARSA &MADHEPURA DISTRICT, BIHAR Dear Madam/sir, GPSVS has been working in the fields of Peoples organization (Women, youths & Farmers) , Mass Education , Community and Reproductive Health, Disaster response , water & Sanitation and other community development activities in rural areas of these districts. Natural calamity is always causing threat to human life not only; this but also to the cattle population & environment. The recent flood in Supoul, Saharsa, Madhepura & Araria Dist. of Bihar lose the house, Livelihoods, human and animal life, & Public utilities, it can not be calculated in terms of money. The misery that caused to the people of the districts will continue for another 5 years at the minimum. 64 GP of 6 blocks of Supoul, 2blocks in Madhepura, 4 blocks in Araria, 2 blocks in Saharsa and 5 blocks in Purnea Dist has been affected by flood with a very painful effect. The situation has become worst of these Blocks. The Major losses in the areas are crops and houses. The traditional type of houses of the displaced families were damaged by the floods and after the water receded most of the houses collapsed. The more vulnerable families are not able to rebuild without external assistance. Water sources for drinking have been polluted. The people living in remote areas affected by the flooding suffer from an acute lack of potable water. No seeds available for next season cultivation. No food material available to all families. Cattle are facing great problems for food, fodder and health care. Most of the People living in unhygienic condition at Highway, roads and embankments suffering from water/vector born diseases. Thousands of affected people were taking shelter on roads, embankments, schools, govt. and private buildings in the dist. and waiting for immediate relief. At the time of flood we the workers of GPSVS & members NAKFA network have involved in immediate Relief operation with our limited resources. We have planned to undertake some activities as measures of relief & rehabilitation for the most flood affected community of Supoul, Araria, Saharsa and Madhepura dist. Bihar through networks also. We request you to kindly do the needful for the affected people so that the poor and needy affected people can be supported.
