Development of Society
- Ajmera has formed a Trust in the name of Smt. Samjuben Shamalji Ajmera Trust (SSAT) and undertakes several social activities in the remote and rural areas, especially in the state of Gujarat for the welfare of the poor and the marginalized.
Educational Activities:
- The trust provides sufficient financial aid to all the villages to construct new school buildings, so that impoverished villages can go ahead with the construction of new schools without worrying about financial aid. SSAT has constructed / helped financially 6 schools.
- Every year, the Trust also provides eligible students with requisite study materials at subsidized rates and sometimes, free of cost, in case of deserving students.
- The SSAT also provides a helping hand to brilliant students in terms of offering them scholarships to pursue higher education, without overlooking any technical and humanitarian aspects.
- A building devoted to the girls Primary School, that is situated in the vicinity of Taluka Shala, was very old and in a dilapidated condition. The Trust is demolishing the same and reconstructing with spacious ventilated rooms and separate sanitary blocks for the girls ‘Kanyashala’. Besides, SSAT have set a target for constructing a minimum of 111 school buildings in Gujarat.
- SSAT also proposes to help in the construction of Mahila College (Ladies only) at Gondal. This is being negotiated with the municipality at Gondal for allotment of land for the college and with the Govt. of Gujarat for permission, simultaneously.
- The SSAT have already constructed one residential hostel for girls at Amreli. This hostel has a capacity of accommodating 150 girls. At present, about 100 girls are enjoying the pleasant environment of the hostel and pursuing higher education through every modern facility such as a library, science room, etc.
- The SSAT had spent a sizeable amount in the construction of a Law College at Gondal in 1989. The city of Gondal already had the facility for Arts and Commerce faculties for University education. The SSAT provided them with one more faculty of Law College which is recognised by Saurashtra University.
- This Law College known as Smt. S. S..Ajmera Law College has 150 students under its wing who are completing their law education at different levels.
Health Initiatives:
- The trust proposes to build a large, ultra-modern facilitative Polio/ Orthopaedic hospital with all the latest machineries at Gondal, Dist. Rajkot. SSAT have already acquired requisite land for the hospital and is on the verge of completing other legal formalities
- It has also built well equipped hospitals in rural areas .
- At Vasavad, again a rural area, situated about 30 km. from Gondal, in 1979-80, SSAT had constructed a full-fledged hospital with 40 beds for indoor patients. The hospital was fully equipped with necessary infrastructure such as a pathological laboratory, surgical equipment and X-ray machine facilities. The Hospital Complex provides the staff with accommodation facility attached with a well-maintained garden and also a Childrens Park, a truly unique facility in such a remote rural area.
- Since 1981, SSAT has been operating a Mobile Dispensary within the circumference of 50 kms. from Vasavad, with a view to facilitate the rural population by serving the patients at their doorstep, on a regular basis. These mobile hospitals are also carrying out vaccination and other treatments for new-borns. Besides anti-poison injections are also administered in case of Snake or Scorpion bites in rural villages, particularly in the monsoon crop season.
- With a view to meet the vehicular need for emergency treatment for needy patients, SSAT is operating an ambulance service at the hospital. This helps rural patients within 50 kms. surrounding Vasavad to reach their destination on time, in case of emergency treatment.
- At times, diagnosis camps are also organized by bringing in various renowned specialists – ophthalmologists, dentists, cardiologists, TB-Chest Specialists, from metro cities like Mumbai, Delhi, etc. to help rural patients get treated for diseases in its early stages. To mitigate the distress during the camp, such renowned specialists from far cities, diagnose, treat and operate the patients at their village doorsteps, free of cost.
- For rural patients, to avoid any difficulty, SSAT has provided a moderate rate, medical store adjacent to the hospital, well-equipped with all types of medicines, so that the illiterate, rural population can get their medicines easily. This medical store offers medicines on a no-profit, no-loss basis.
- SSAT proposes to build a large, ultra-modern facilitative Polio/ Orthopaedic hospital with all the latest machineries at Gondal, Dist. Rajkot. SSAT have already acquired requisite land for the hospital and is on the verge of completing other legal formalities.
Heart-felt social activities:
- SSAT have been selected by the Govt. of Gujarat as PIA to take up the activities under Watershed Development Programme.
- SSAT have constructed almost 7 Check Dams on the rivers of Gondal Taluka of Rajkot District and have been able to successfully stop and store huge quantities of about 80 crore litres of water.
- It has also been determined by SSAT Board to explore all the possibilities to undertake maximum water conservation work in the rural areas and to
co-operate with all the voluntarily working organizations for this purpose.
Apart from the construction of Check Dams, SSAT has embarked upon development of agriculture by introducing scientific techniques and methods such as:
- Soil Testing
- Water Testing
- Change in Crop patterns wherever necessary
- Introducing high yielding varieties of seeds with due treatment etc.
- Crop Protection – pesticides, weedicides, germicides, medicinal treatment, etc.
- Irrigation facilities – Recharging of Wells, Percolation tanks, etc.
- Organic manure and fertilizer
- Drip Irrigation
- Demonstration of Agricultural Plots
- Preservation of soil bacteria
With a view to effectively implement the aforestation process, SSAT has planned to develop the forest, by itself, on the banks of rivers, where Check Dams are constructed, and being constructed in the future. SSAT plans to initiate people towards planting more and more trees. Here adequate water and self-irrigation facility is available automatically, without any financial or manpower expenditure cost.
SSAT distributes subabul and other such trees to develop forests. The simultaneous effort for tree plantation from one corner of the country can definitely be a revolutionary start to minimize the pollution and thicken the Ozone layer. This will also help to preserve the land from erosion.
SSAT maintains a Cattle Camp in 40 acres of land on the outskirts of Gondal city purely for charitable purposes. Milk that is produced is distributed daily by the trust to the needy families. This social work is carried out by the Trust since past many years. SSAT also provides veterinary services with qualified Vet Doctors and Animal Husbandry Officers. All sorts of medicines and vaccinations for sick cattle are made available.
During the destructive earthquakes at Latur in Maharashtra and later at Bhuj in Gujarat, SSAT had arranged full-fledged Medical Aid teams bringing with them Doctors, Nurses and social workers to help the earthquake-affected people.
Presuming that severe earthquakes would definitely break down the entire electrical power system, SSAT had carried a set of 6 generators to restore power. On request of the Military personnel, generators were given to military and doctors, with halogens and floodlights, to enable them to continue the Medical and rescue work at night. These generators proved very helpful to military persons, hospitals and other organizations during night time as they could continue their relief work during night hours too.
SSAT had arranged truckloads of food grains, vegetables, utensils, etc. to cater to the basic needs of the affected people. SSAT had also arranged as many tents as required to shift and medically treat the injured people. SSAT was the first and only organization to arrange for these facilities.
Every year, SSAT distributes food grains, saris and clothes to the needy people in Gondal.
At the time of heavy floods, SSAT reached out to assist affected people by providing them food, medicines, food packets, Woolen Sweaters, clothes, candles, lanterns, etc.
In Saurashtras drought-prone regions, SSAT provided basic necessities of life to people such as water, electricity, food, clothing, financial aid to poor patients, etc.
